Watching Blended tonight was like stepping into a film time machine and landing in an '80's John Candy movie.

It had a lot of that pleasantly contrived comic artifice that can be so charming when done well, it also had some good writing, and all the actors were retropropriate.

Unfortunately, it has some slack patches which keep it from being another Adam Sandler classic, but luckily he and Drew carry this flawed gem over the finish line.

4 out of 5.

The term "bland" was coined for this movie. Blended is unable to recapture the spark of the last two Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore collaborations, The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates (both of which I loved), despite an exotic African locale. But the two actors have such a natural chemistry with each other that they still manage to make certain moments work. Despite Blended's blandness, it's still the best Sandler movie in years. There are at least enough funny moments to count on one hand so it's not a total disaster. I guess I'll take bland over offensively bad. C

Hey bradley, curious in how you'd rank the Sandler movies last 7 years in You Don't Mess With the Zohan, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Bedtime Stories, both Grown Ups, Just Go With It, Jack and Jill, That's My Boy, since I missed them all despite loving a lot of the earlier ones

1. (tie) You Don't Mess With The Zohan is out-and-out classic Sandler.
1. (tie) I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry with it's screenplay by Alexander Payne is very funny.
2. Just Go With It is a very close second - - it's a real rom-com with plenty of rom to go with the com.
3. Grown Ups had some laughs but wasn't a particularly good movie.
4. That's My Boy was a huge disappointment coming from the director of the hilarious Sex Drive.
5. Bedtime Stories was just plain bad.

I skipped Jack And Jill and Grown Ups 2.

Blended would fit in between #3 and #4 above.

Grown Ups 2 is underrated with all the cameos, I found it hilarious and almost as Random as say Billy Madison.

What a pleasant surprise. This looked pretty bad but it ended up being pretty funny. I laughed out loud several times. It was also really sweet. Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler deliver their third winner. Very fun flick.

8/10 (B+)

C-

Yeah, I am starting to giving up on Sandler. At least when he was in a film with Drew Barrymore, there was hope for a solid flick. I liked both 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer, but this film could also be called Blanded. Not funny enough to sustain interest over a prolonged amount of time and the third time wasn't a charm for Sandler and Barrymore. They can't conjure up any chemistry they had in their previous collaborations. And then there is Terry Crews, walking the fine line between funny and annoying, usually falling on the latter side of it. Damn, it has really been a while since the last really solid Sandler-flick, hasn't it?
