Once again, Magnus is right
This one hit people hard, my entire Facebook just blew up. It really is somber. But at least there appears to be a good message about the dangers of depression emerging from this tragedy.
It's hard to measure a celebrity's impact when they pass, because so many factors come in. But this year we've lost two hugely talented actors who had so much they've offered and so much yet to offer (the other being Phillip Seymour Hoffman). Just last month I watched Good Will Hunting for the first time. It's the quintessential Robin Williams role: a sweet, endearing funny character with a serious side. Robin was great in the funny and the serious.
Everyone mentioned the usual stuff but I have to say he was a great TV star too. He's very Robin Williams on Mork & Mindy and I thought The Crazy Ones deserved a second season. In fact the biggest blunder of the latter might have been that awful title.
But my childhood will greatly miss the star of Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji.

Wow Rip
Was it known that he suffered from depression?

I'm just gonna be here crying all night don't mind me.
Me too. Heard it in line for a The Giver screening and it was disbelief at first as we were all using our phones trying to verify if it was real or not. Really a shame.
Farewell Mr. Williams!

I have seen this movie like 100 times and I seriously may never be able to watch it again the same way. I thought about this scene after hearing the news and cried.
I'm not less sad today. For everyone in their late 20's, we grew up with him. It was like he was our cool uncle. An extension of our family.

At least he didn't jump off a bridge.

Picking your favorite Robin Williams film or character is like picking what oxygen to breathe. The ending of Awakenings is even more tragic now.

I live in Boston. Just went to the Good Will Hunting bench. Very touching. 50 people standing around, silent. Writing messages, sometimes quotes from his movies.
Easily the worst for me. Ledger's was perhaps more tragic given he has so much unrealised potential, but I just don't have the personal attachment to him.
I've watched the 'Sean' scenes from Good Will Hunting at least 200 times. That character and his imagining of him is something of a personal inspiration to me. I literally feel like I've lost someone I know.
Agreed. Brilliant character actor. His "mentor" roles though >>>
Despite what some say about his acting ability... I'd say he was one of the most underappreciated actors of my generation. Along with Jim Carrey.

Article forgot to mention he literally had to downsize his fortune because of he had to pay for his best friend's medical bill as a quadrapalgic for 10 years.

Fallon did a tribute to him last night:
The Aladdin Broadway show cast also did a tribute at the end of their performance yesterday as well:
