Definitely agree to disagree. I can't be crazy.

Rocket's need for the dude's robotic eye at the end trumps all.

What an unexpectedly great delight! This is one of the most entertaining movies of the year - it's hilarious, exciting and heartfelt. It honestly puts The Avengers to shame. I loved all of the characters. Chris Pratt is a true leading man and is incredibly charismatic and likable in the lead role. This movie should make him a star. Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista all shine and Vin Diesel steals the show in a fantastic vocal performance. It's incredibly stylish, colorful, and above all fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously, is filled with pop culture references and is set to a soundtrack of hits from the '70s and '80s. It all makes for an incredibly rousing and enjoyable viewing experience. I do agree that the climax is a bit conventional but by that point I was so invested in the characters that it didn't really bother me. I can't wait for the sequel! A-

I really enjoyed this, but I just didn't fall in love with it like everybody else. The Rocket/Groot stuff is gold and the movie looks beautiful, but it also has many of the same weaknesses that other MCU movies have had lately such as a weak villain, and a way too overstuffed third act.

Besides those little qualms though I pretty much loved everything else. Pratt, Saldana, and Bautista are all really likeable characters that have great chemistry together. I also liked the supporting characters, especially Michael Rooker's Yondu with that hardcore southern accent.

Those end credit scenes were trash though. Ok the first one was cute, but c'mon the Howard the Duck bit sucked and wasn't funny.

Changed my mind. This film is AWFUL.

No character development, very forced character motivations, terrible plot (what the fuck was with the "i will be a slave no more" girl other than they needed someone to fuck up the situation?), really, really, all time bad "tell and dont show" dialogue throughout the entire movie...

Sooo many cringe worthy scenes...

You didn't find the scenes relating to Pete's mother pointless, and in the end, cringe worthy?

Its a funny movie and is entertaining if viewed properly which is why I enjoyed it the first time. Give it the same lens tDK trilogy, man of steel, iron man, avengers, captain america et al all had? This movie is horrible. :funny:

I kept waiting for them to accidentally call the Orp the Tesseract. Same plot line Marvel? Nice.

Transformers 1, The Rock, Armageddon, Avengers 1...there are much, much funnier films.

It's one of the better MCU films mainly because it has at least 4 great characters (Starlord, Rocket, Groot, Drax) plus the action is one of the strongest for a Marvel film in a while. That helps cover up for the usual Marvel flaws. For me good is the enemy of great for Marvel. By constantly putting dramatic creative on the backburner in favor of a more light and digestable product, they're a Barney Stinson like womanizer who wants shallow hook-ups instead of a relationship and commitment

I really didn't care much for the Thanos scene. My fears were pretty much spot on about him not doing anything and barking orders. Josh Brolin's voice is a good fit, but I hope they fix the CGI by the time TA3 comes out.

Also, Nathan Fillion's cameo was so fucking pointless.

This is true for films like this. Captain America 2 and the Iron Man films kind of at leats hint at some real drama.

It's plenty possible for a film as light as GOTG or other MCU ones to have strong story creative. Pirates 1 is a light blockbuster that has a memorable storyline and a villain with a developed history/motivation making him more interesting. I just think Marvel is avoiding it at this point.

Frankly one of the biggest things I took from GOTG was re-appreciating how much better a version of this Farscape is

All I know is if we get one more scene of the villain preaching domination with his arms out wide dramatically as Ronan does here, I am going to throw up.

The cube, the tesseract, the orp All the same. Irn Man 2 and 3 had essentially the same villains with diffetne names. Marvels extremely unoriginal.

Uh-huh. 'Cause it's not at all likely that you saw it, liked it, then realized it's a much bigger hit than you expected and suddenly a "threat" to -- say -- MAN OF STEEL, and suddenly your view of it swung the other way?

& and you thought Man of Steel had weak character motivations IIRC? Everything relating to his mom was pointless. He wasnt portrayed as someone with abandonment issues, or someone with relationship issues, someone with any issues beyond being a womanizer. His moms death was so pointless to the plot IDK what to say.

A threat to what? What difference does sharing my opinion on a message board full of people whove already seen it make?

Its a fun movie if you like dumb movies. If you like quality it isnt for you.

Does it make you angry that this is pulling a 92% at Rotten Tomatoes while MAN OF STEEL has a 55%?

:funny: No, it doesn't make me angry. I find it puzzling but at the same time not really. If you are really going to "go for it" with that kind of source material, the risk of being more polarizing is always there. WB could have easily made a very standard/cookie cutter Superman film which everybody liked (though few truly 'loved'). They were for something a bit more ambitious and as a result won some raving fans but also alienated some as well. Expectations matter heavily and MOS tried to be & was sold as a dramatic piece ala the TDK trilogy, hence expecs were high and it somewhat failed to meet them. GOTG sold itself as a silly popcorny film so expecs were largely met. It is what it is.

I just hope this kind of ish doesn't discourage DC from continuing to pursue more serious attempts at superhero films.

Not every superhero film has to be serious, and not every superhero film has to be goofy. It should be taken on a film-by-film basis.

I agree and GOTG works a stupid goofy movie. Its the folks saying its better than Avengers and what have you that are way out line.

Eh, I get it. AVENGERS has a pretty weak first 45 minutes, and GUARDIANS certainly looks a lot better from a cinematography standpoint.

I think re-watching gotg in 5 years will be painful for you. So many genuine :grrr: moments.

Post Re: Guardians of the Galaxy
Re-watching this a second time has me convinced that...

Spoiler: show
Yondu is Peter Quill's father for a couple reasons:
--Peter's mother described Peter's father as an "angel," then Yondu describes himself as an "angel" at the end of the movie
--Yondu calls Peter "son" repeatedly throughout the movie, but we don't really notice and it seems normal since it's covered in a Southern accent / manner
--Would be a pretty big reason why Yondu never delivered Peter anywhere and is soft on him (maybe he made up the assignment as a reason to convince his crew to go to Earth)

The only evidence against it is Nova Prime's whole "you have something ancient within you" - which admittedly, is a pretty big whole in my theory. :(

Well, I'm hardly in love with the film, and the sequel tie-in to Quill's father is maybe the roughest setup I've seen in a major film. "It's a good thing we didn't take him to his father like we were paid to do!"
