Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
76/205 would be a worse multiplier than CA 2, which I don't see happening with summer weekdays and the fact that it is a n original film from a non mainstream brand.

August isn't exactly prime summer time and CA2 didn't have as big of competition specially second weekend like TMNT.

Total Gross - $305 million It's going to be kind of amazing if Chris Pratt has top billing in two of the Top 10 movies of the year. Who was the last actor to do that?

Even with a 90m OW, I think 250m is near its max. Historically, August is pretty kind to well-received blockbusters (just look at how many big August openers had a 2.9+ multiplier, including recent ones), and even if this has the MCU backing, it's still an accessible non-sequel. $250 million I guess would be a realistic goal, but it's actual max is closer to Lecter's prediction. This will be in the Top 5 well into August if it breaks $90 million, and that can count for a lot.

Even with a 90m OW, I think 250m is near its max. Lol, its WoM will be about ten times better than for the original Captain America.

GotG is funny but CA2 had better WOM and lesser competition. Plus August is having a shit load of movies opening.

Its actually really depressing that WOM can't give movies Pirates of the Caribbean type legs anymore.

Like it or hate it, Pirates was a unique franchise

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
That's a family movie. I meant that it is sad that a fanboy property's total is essentially determined opening weekend. No matter how good a superhero film is, it likely won't get a 3X mulitplier.

Guardians of the Galaxy is probably even more family friendly. Dumb fanboy effect ruins everything.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
This was really mediocre with substandard action and is definitely a lesser-tier comic book movie. Transformers easily keeps the summer crown, people way overestimating its crossover appeal and legs.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
concede I was way off, really thought a TMNT breakout would've hurt its legs like every other summer movie but it did even better than CA2?

Yeah, this won't be dropping anywhere close to 64%, and the rest of its holds should be a walk in the park.

Its great to see this breaking out and becoming this huge but I would have preferred if CA2 was bigger than this.

Even with a 90m OW, I think 250m is near its max. LOL, Magnus. It is a near-lock to hit $300 million now. The absolute floor is $290 million, meaning a 3.07 multiplier. I still think my $305 million projection will pretty much come true within $1-2 million. It will pass a multiplier of 3.2.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
Yes, it will be at almost 275 million on Labor Day. Add in a very uncompetitive first couple weeks of September, and Bingo Bango Guardians becomes our first 300 million film of the year. I really hope it grosses at least 305 million or so to cement its place ahead of Who Framed Roger Rabbit to be the second best attended summer winner in the last 26 years.

Whoops, it needs 310 million. May not be possible.
