Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
If only it didn't have TMNT to steal a large part of its audience in it second weekend I could see it doing a 3X multiplier like The Avengers and Iron Man.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
Looks like the Disney/Marvel marketing machine is going to pay off. Not a bad way to start out three weeks in advance. I honestly thought it would be tracking in the 40s this early.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
It looks like it could be POTC like fun.
Let's hope it is and not the same stuff we see in every Marvel movie or campy shit.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
Wouldn't that be awesome if it had a POTC type run? But it will fall at least 55% in its second weekend due to TMNT, which is a shame, because if this is good, it has a lot of potential.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
Can ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Help Rescue The Summer Box Office? Link - http://m.deadline.com/2014/07/guardians ... ice-boost/Pretty interesting little article. It seems like ALOT is riding on Marvel to save the summer now, which is strange considering I don't understand why they would have high expectations for such a completely obscure property. I mean its not like its going to open to $100M+, and if they seriously think that then they are foolish. Anyways, reaction from the early press screenings are really positive, so it should have good legs, but it won't open HUGE.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
I buy the tracking so I do think it can get $70m.
Though the writer of the article seems to think a film being on top for 4 weeks is a sign of healthy overall box office which is an incorrect assumption. Sometimes it means just the opposite.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
$70m is big tracking numbers. I think they are being influenced by Marvel movies doing good in general but then again that can be true if families turn up.

The film has had its premiere. Does anyone know when the review embargo will lift?

I think 60-70m opening will happen but TMNT is going to hurt it big time

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
Reviews are so far so good. 100% on RT. I think the final score will be in the 80s plus it has a 3800+ theater count. It has a legitimate shot of breaking the August OW record.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
I think the reviews are going to help this quite a bit. It seems like a lot of the default response to this is "lol looks stupid," but the fact that it's actually very good could persuade a lot of people that are on the fence.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
I really hope TMNT bombs so this can be a ridiculously leggy WOM hit w/o that stealing away it audience. I think Guardians of the Galaxy could save the summer if TMNT bombs.

This is going to crush TMNT.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
Well, yes, it will make more, but if Guardians of the Galaxy were going to save the summer, it would need to match Iron Man's legs, which won't happen with TMNT in its second weekend. Even if TMNT opens in just the high 20's, that could be enough to propel Guardians to a hard second weekend fall.

25 reviews, and still at 100% on RT. That's mighty impressive.
It does look fresh compared to the other Marvel shit we've been force fed over the years, so I am not totally surprised to hear good things about it.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy: Will it really be a big hit?
I think it needs to appear on movietickets top 5 today if it's truly going to break out (70M+). Tuesday are always good for holdovers on movietickets, so if Guardians doesn't hit the top 5 today, it probably won't until Wednesday. It could still break out if it doesn't appear until Wednesday, but it's % will have to go up fast to do it.

Looks like it's having that Marvel thing that makes critics write positively when reviewing a film they found quite enjoyable/entertaining despite perhaps not being up to the level of cinematic blah blah blah of films like The Dark Knight.
