FUCKING. AWESOME.
Not as good as first, but pretty close. I liked the action better this time, though the comedy was not as good. Shia screaming like a little girl in his dorm room was hilarious, as was the "get ready to bring on the rain" and the Bad Boys II poster. That poster was fucking hilarious. Oh, and Megan Fox was even better-looking.
I really can't see how anyone who liked the first one could not like this one. It may not be as good, but it's pretty close. All the complaints of this are the same as the first. Ja Broni

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
I don't plan on seeing this in the theatres really but ROTF is great.
I hope I don't become Magnus when I watch it again.
So far, two movies I've enjoyed immensely on my first watch have become rather ordinary second time round.
Casino Royale being the first, I loved it back in 2006, saw it last year and I was bored out of my mind. The pacing is sloth-like. It's no better than the rest of the other Bonds geriatric snail pace. Only Eva Green and Craig help it out to be better than the rest of that dour, plodding franchise.
Second is STID, which becomes rather badly written and retarded. Sigh. Oh well.
I don't generally rewatch movies because I tend to seem to be able to play most of it back in my head, but just because you remember scenes and characters and everything doesn't mean they actually work as well as you think unfortunately.

Equally "hilarious" was the Ken Watanabe voiced Drift (my god...) staring into the camera and stopping just short of winking at the audience.
I think it's really easy to view this movie as pure satire, with Michael Bay raging against the machine that gives him so much money to make these. The problem with that theory, of course, is that none of his past films suggests he's capable of that.

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
Pain & Gain is not satire. It's got something to say about the american dream, for sure, but that something is completely plowed by Michael Bay's juvenile mind. It's also way too long (again, Michael Bay).
The Rock is awesome in it, though. Hopefully he can be the star in the inevitable Transformers 5.

Here's a rather astute observation from another board... Quote: "The US government is so very evil here but communist China rises to protect it’s people in danger."

There are so many things wrong with that statement. I don't even know where to begin.

Not only that, but the communist part reeks of years of propaganda and uninformed scaremongering. But that is something for a Water Cooler thread, not a review thread. Back to the film-related objection; weren't the US forces trying to get rid of the Transformers (which would, in return, save human lives from further destruction)? and since when were the Chinese trying to save their people? I don't remember seeing anything like that. The only way that China is in this film is by setting. I don't remember any Chinese boardroom scenes where the Chairman is issuing police to save humans. Please fill me in if I missed something. It was a very long film, and it is quite probable that I have forgotten a key element.

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
The dinobots were disappointing. Sure they looked good in action, but after so much spectacle had already hammered my eyes it wasn't the moment I wanted. The product placements were also kind of annoying, especially the one for the Chinese army that ended up not helping the autobots at all. At least Marky looked like he was enjoying that bud light. Everything else I had a blast with. Sure the story is dumb, but at least it wasn't weighed down by unnecessary betrayals and plot twists like Dark was. The Chicago sequence and escape is the franchise at its peak and probably would have worked better as the film's finale. That isn't how Mr. Bay works though. You think you've had enough action? Well take another 40 minute battle scene and enjoy it damnit! All set in the day time too. How refreshing it was to actually be able to follow the action, yet it also leaves one feeling exhausted, exactly how Mr. Bay wants us to feel. And that is why we (I) love him. While I enjoyed Mark and Speed Racer's back and forth, couldn't have done the same thing with Nikola being 18? The Romeo and Juliet felt like another product placement, but I can't even see how Bay could use it to his advantage at his current age. Anyways, Transformers 1 is still the best. Revenge got much better over repeated viewings, Dark got worse. I'd slot Extinction in at #2 for the moment. It made me care about the human characters more than the last two and it delivered better action sequences. Before this I had hoped it would be Mr. Bay's last Transformers, but now I'd like to see him finish his work.

I wonder how they will contrive to include Mark Wahlberg's character and his family in Optimus Prime's war against his Creators.

 Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction
I imagine Optimus will bring his war to Earth, just like in the first four movies
On the other hand I wouldn't be all that surprised if Wahlberg was a one and done.

Nah, they'd launch from China, so Bingbing will get her cameo again.
