Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
Two more rotten reviews including another Top Critic from Newsday - - an especially damning 1.5/4 noting "Like so many sequels, it's everything the first film aspired not to be."

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
As of now this film is 10 points higher than the first.
It has a 92% on RT with 118 reviews. 108 good and only 10 bad. The Avg is 8.1 Not only did this out do the original in ever way but it is also one of the best reviewed films of the summer. Can not wait to see it.

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
It's a very satisfying film, but I'm not really sure how to gauge it after my preview audience. There seemed to be a lot of unintentional laughter in my packed viewing. I'm hoping it can steal the summer though through lack of competition. I do see at least a 28 million opening day.

Those must be the same top critics that gave Cloud Atlas 30 negative reviews.

I still don't think it will happen. I mean, yeah, it has good reviews, but so did Edge of Tomorrow. Ultimately, it's just too dark to be a $250m+ grosser.

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
The other movies are dying very fast so there is still a chance but I see this one getting close to $230m and come out second to Transformers. But it will be a very close race between this Maleficent and Transformers IMO which most likely will loose to both CA2 and Lego.

CA2 and LEGO are not Summer movies, so they don't matter.

Great first step to reach that goal. It'll be between it and TF4.

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
It needs a 4.09 multiplier to reach $250 million, which is about the range TF4 should finish in. With this weekend's drop, and continued July dailies, that's definitely in the cards.

MGCasey, great job on doing this club even though it will fall short. At least, Guardians of the Galaxy looks like to be the winner for the summer.

Eh, I'd say it's not even a good prediction now that it's not passing X-Men, Maleficent, or Transformers. But I couldn't be more happy for Guardians to be the one to take the title.

Yes. It looks like GOTG will make at least 265 million now with it duplicating CA2's weekends and summer weekdays.

It never had chances to be the number one film of the summer; people overpredicted this too much

Do you mean it never had a chance to have good holds? Because it certainly could have won the summer had it held like say, Finding Nemo.

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
$205-210M is still very good, considering that just a few days before release it was looking like a disappointment, with those shitty pre-sales. It was looking like it would have a hard time reaching $150M.
