I'm thinking sex is okay, but only if you are an adult. 18 would be an appropiate age I suppose, because you are out of your parents care, and you are old enough to make your own decisions.

It's not really, to me about being "old enough" but the ability and capacity to handle the consequences.

I also believe that childhood (yes, I'm including teenagers in this) is a sacred time and should be as uncomplicated as possible. I don't think kids should really have to deal with these issues at this time, it's not really necessary. Sex only adds complication.

It depends on the people obviously. Some are ready as young as 13...

I'm not a virgin, but I did wait until I was 16, and every time since then I have made sure to use protection, while my girlfriend also does. I think if you can keep it smart and safe like that with someone you know as well as we know each other it's alright. When you don't have protection/ you're too drunk to even know who it is you're doing and whether they might have any STDs, then you're in trouble. People of all ages have differing levels of responsibility.

You become able to think more rationally after adolescence ends. So I think waiting till 18+ is a good idea.

Ideally 20 is a good age because if something bad happens, you are then likely most the way through college and it won't completely crush your dreams.

But it's not realistic for most kids to wait that long, I know.

Sex is appropriate whenever you legally feel like it; if your in love with someone then id say sex is not a big deal as threads like this make it out to be...

Exactly. It depends on the person. I'd say most people are ready to have sex when they're a Junior or Senior in highschool.

No...thats when most are forced into sex because of peer pressure. Two years later they are whining about wishing they handt lost their virginity to some jerkoff in a drunken night.

You know; so many relationships when your in your late teens are totally fake. I cant sniff em a mile off, they last six months tops and then both parties bitch about each other like they had injected life threatening venom into one another....

Ok. I'll give it a shot.

No one is ready to have sex until they are 26 years of age. Anyone having sex before the appropriate age of 26 is risking permenant injury and are just having sex with jerkoffs who they might get impregnated by, or impregnate.

Thinking about the other thread - what are your feelings on what age sex is appropiate?

Are we talking 16 is still OK, 18/19, 21, 25, etc?

Now remember that even if your are responsible, a pregancy could still happen ( condoms aren't 100% or they can rip or fall off). And even if it isn't pregancy - there are still the possible diseases - even besides AIDS - you have others which can't be cured for you lifetime.

Also as I have seen lots of people in a financially bad way - people being behind in their bills, needing handout to get bye or living check to check. The financial part of having a kid after a pregnancy is very great - you wouldn't believe how much money will be coming out of your wallet to pay for this.

So since there could be a lifetime of events that COULD happen with having sex - what age?

are you imtim?

i think we better all play it safe and never have sex

does anyone know where you can get a cherry un-popped?

Age is entirely an artifical construct when it comes to sex in our society. Humans are ready for sex after they reach puberty. That's what puberty means. That's when women are the most fertile and when males are the most sexually aware. And for most of human history, people got married or had kids at much younger ages than they do.

In fact, it's only very recently we've decided on an arbitrary age of 16 for consensual sex. I understand that and believe that teenagers should be careful, particularly about the law, protection, and pregnancy, but it's only by societal convention that teenagers "aren't ready" to deal with sex when biology says that they're more ready than at any other time in their lives.

So you really believe a 12 year old girl is ready to have kids in today's society?

Sure im generalizing; but If it comes from experience with friends and others I should be allowed to do that.
Maybe its not the reason that SOME people have sex; but I know a damn good amount of people who have lost their virginity for that very reason. People on these messageboards over-estimate society as a whole. Maybe im just dis-enchanted by the lack of depth with people ive been encountering recently. Im having a midlife crises at the ripe old age of 17. *sigh*

there is a big difference between being ready before the fact and being ready after the fact.

It's not about age, although I don't any 12 year olds who are done with puberty. It's about sexual maturity and societal convention. Teenagers have been having sex for hundreds of thousands of years. We need to be judicious about our artifical constructs and stigmas when it comes to teenagers and sex.
