If Godzilla 2014 with an effective marketing push and better reviews couldn't even top Zilla 98 adjusted then there is no way Dawn will come anywhere close to Planet of The Apes 2001 with less hype/mainstream appeal.

Transformers 4 is heading towards $260M+ so for this top AOE would mean it would have to sell more tickets than Apes 2001 adjusted and that ain't happening.

WTF. Apes is having 92% and 8.8/10 average so far. I am 100% sure Apes will lot stronger reviews than Zilla. Also the previous Apes movie released with very low hype and still exploded. I am thinking this is another one where hype is more outside internet.

Also TF4 could finish lower. its already at 10M tuesday according to RTH. Based on what happened yesterday Paramount will report an "actual" around 9.5M. It could finish between 230-240 if it drops 65% this weekend. Next weekend another hard drop is a lock with Apes opening.

But I am also not to sure about Apes at this point. Could finish with "just" 200m.

Clearly your statement irked Keyser.

Did you get his point?

Anyway, the 2001 Apes, which was shit, had lousy legs for 2001. This movie has great reviews unlike that horrendous Burton mess. So if it's a crowd pleaser and it opens to at least $65m it could give this club a shot.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that the first half dozen reviews, written two weeks ahead of the release date for Burton's Planet Of The Apes were also incredibly positive.

I can't believe you guys keep falling for this standard studio practice.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes may well be the best film of the decade, but there is no way to tell from the early reviews. They are only granted to guaranteed raves from friendly reviewers - - why else would the studio waive their standard non-disclosure agreements?

2001's Planet of the Apes adjusts to 96/253. I'd say there is no way in hell it will ever get higher than that. Even with legs, it will be hard for it to gross the 260-270 needed to win the summer.

TF4 isn't exactly lighting the world on fire. I'm sure it won't make $260m.

I have it at 9.7 million Tuesday, 9 million Wednesday, 10.8 million Thursday, 11-12 million Friday, 16-17 million Saturday and 12-13 million Sunday. It should be around 180 million by Sunday.

I think you and I have completely opposite taste.

I loved Dragon 1/2, Apes, this looks great and you like things like Man of Steel...

Did you like DOFP/Godzilla/EOT or Lego Movie?

The trailer with Transformers was really really good. If they had been marketing it like that all along it would have opened to $80M+ easy. Now I fear its too late, even with the good reviews. Going with $66M / $175M , basically matching the first.

200m is reachable

Winning the summer is unreachable

Why only a 2.65 multiplier? With early word so strong and two incredibly weak weekends after it opens, I imagine its legs will be better than that.

I meant reviews for Zilla 14 in comparison to Zilla 98. My point is that I just don't see it being that big, but I am rooting for it.

My prediction right now is 70/210.

I agree with Jon. Its easy to say that with a streak of movies underperforming in the last month (minus The Fault in Our Stars and 22 Jump Street), it may open closer to $50M but I can't see that happening. However, with this week's openers underperforming and Transformers 4 fading fast and the only big movie in July, I see its multiplier being closer to 3 and a $70M opening.

I'm just going by the trends of the summer. Only Maleficent has had anything resembling good legs.
