 Friday Matinee Numbers...
Apparently, they exist. Numbers as of an hour ago or so from "spatulashack" on the box office forum. Maleficient 2.64 XMDOFP 0.54 AMWTDITW 0.36 Godzilla 0.14 Comparisons...same time on their same day in their release cycle Alice in Wonderland 5.1 Oz 2.32 Fast 6 0.29 He probably might update throughout the day but it's nearly 3am here so I'm going to sleep. If this guy sticks around, things will get very interesting. Cue the "I miss the days we got estimates on Monday morning"

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
I have no idea what these numbers will mean. A 60 million OW for Maleficent? A 17 million second Friday for DOFP?

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
Sources tell BoxOffice that Maleficent is trending for an opening day north of $25 million (including Thursday's night $4.2 million), which would set it in course for an excellent $80-85 million weekend. Sources also report that A Million Ways to Die in the West may bring in around $8-10 million today for a weekend around $21-23 million. Meanwhile, X-Men: Days of Future Past is holding up well in Friday matinees with business on track for around $15 million today. Should that figure hold, the sequel could tally for $48-50 million this weekend. http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-news/20 ... end-report

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
Probably a $25m Friday based on the looks of those matinees?
edit: nice cross-post, but I don't think $80m-$85m is a good early estimate. This won't have quite the same Saturday boost as previous PG fare like Alice & Oz due to the time of year (many schools are out).

Everything means nothing. Everything means nothing when you're on a forum. Everything means NOTHING! When you're tracking boxoffice.

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
I still find it ridiculous that words such as "West did $7-9 million" are being typed - in the past tense - while it is still 4:30 pm on the West Coast and 7:30 on the East Coast.

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
The actual quote was "Universal’s R-rated Western comedy was heading for about $7 million to $9 million on Friday...". My bad.

But even then...I mean, seriously? Before the 8 pm shows have started anywhere?

Well, Variety made a Nikki here and changed it without marking the change...

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
A Million Ways to Die in the West mystifies me a bit. I remember watching the first red-band trailer and believing, "Oh, this should be a definite hit. It seems to nail the right zany tone, and it has Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, etc." But then, I swear to God, Universal spent the months between then and now slowly releasing air from the film's balloon. It devolved from Seth MacFarlane's star-studded Ted follow-up to a nonevent.

No excuse for it not to open to $40+ million.

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
I suspect a significant amount of the blame will be attributed to MacFarlane deciding to try his hand at headlining a live-action movie.

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
But still, I assumed that the major supporting cast would make up for that and that a funny trailer is enough to lure in audiences.

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
yeah, Million Ways always looked like a big hit initially. bizzare. Guess it started losing steam once those really early screenings came along.

 Re: Friday Matinee Numbers...
I hope the #'s keep going up and Maleficent hits 90 for the weekend like I predicted. 3 90 million openings in a row would be cool.
