no it won't. First there are the X-Men fans who will turn out probably regardless and then the fact it opens on memorial day weekend will be huge. X-men will open great and Godzilla won't really effect it.

the reviews seem great but for some reason I am not getting a break out vibe from this. It just seems if you haven't seen any of the previous X-Men movie you're not going to start with this one

95% rating right now which is awesome. Still think it will settle in the mid to upper 80s like X2 and First Class.

Just came back from the preview screening here in Germany. The movie surely delivers even though the two best scenes are in the first half of the movie... Still, I give it a 9/10.. Too bad that we will have gorgeous weather here, which will kill the box office this weekend...

reviews really don't help this series much though. First Class received high acclaim but didn't break out at all. Even the first two movies didn't do as good as you think movies with such acclaim would.

X-Men: biggest opening weekend ever for a non-sequel X2: third biggest opening weekend ever
It's also worth noting that X-Men blew way past expectations of where it would open, and X2 opened on the high end of predictions heading into its first weekend. Yes, the latter did have poor legs, but it got hit hard by The Matrix Reloaded in week three and more big openers taking up screens in the weeks after that.

talking about legs. Despite amazing reviews the legs were not that impressive for movies with such acclaim. First Class also didn't have longevity at the box office like Batman Begins or Rise of the Apes that same year despite having a similar opening
