Filmo you have a right to be upset as a lot of things aren't explained or explored as to why they are it just is... Might work for the average movie go'er but not for anyone invested in this franchise.

It works for anyone who can actually connect dots on their own. It's a problem for people who see two dots on a page and have absolutely no idea how to link them.

You saw Xavier jump into another body in THE LAST STAND (and as thegun mentioned, the movie features Xavier giving a monologue purely for the sake of setting that up). In THE WOLVERINE Xavier waves it off as having his own gifts.

Who cares beyond that? Movies shouldn't have to stop dead so someone can talk into the camera.

Xavier is a parasite who steals other bodies? I never noticed that. Strange.

Apparently you took a bathroom break during X3.

Another thing I didn't quite get, but maybe TDS can help out on this one: (not putting it in spoilers because we're in the spoilers forum already)

The film starts off in a bleak post-apocalyptic future. But when did that happen? I mean the post-credits scene of The Wolverine, when Magneto and Professor X meet Wolverine at the airport seemed to be set in a perfectly peaceful world and also the scenes in Japan didn't indicate a Sentinels apocalypse. Moreover: if Trask was murdered in the 70s and the government has been working on the Sentinels ever since then, how come there are no mention of them in X1 or X2?

I'm not sure. I don't see the film until Tuesday and the script I read didn't involve Mystique's assassination of Trask; Wolverine was going back to simply stop Mystique from being captured and used to kick-start Sentinel development.

From What I read ten years pass after that end credit scene, so in ten years that could happen. As for what happened to them, I am not sure, but will guess. Maybe for some reason the government didn't see them as viable to use anymore (maybe the technology hadn't advanced far enough) and gave up on them. In X2, you did see the plans for them on Stryker's computer, and he did say that someone would finish what he started. Probably, one of Stryker's men restarted the program and finished it created the future sentinels that were so advanced and went after mutants and humans alike. I haven't seen the movie, and am just speculating based on some things I have read in interviews and the behind the scene footage.

Well, that doesn't work for me. Partly because of something stated in the film (won't spoil it here), but also: so why do Magneto and Professor X pick up Wolverien at the airport, stating that there is grave danger and they need his help, even though apparently ten years pass from then until the events of DOFP?

Aside from all the announced mutants, there are also several cameos at the end:

Spoiler: show
Kelsey Grammer as the older Beast, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey and James Marsden as Cyclops

However, I am always wondering about one thing: why did the franchise never bring back Nightcrawler? The character was very much beloed in X2 and I'd argue he (and his first scenes) is one of the reasons why that film is so highly regarded. Seriously, they brought back almost everyone for Days of Future Past.

On the upside, the absence of Angel, Banshee and Azazel is actually not just glossed over in the film, but referenced. Surprisingly nothing about Emma Frost, though.

Emma's mentioned when Magneto is naming off everybody who (presumably) died between films.

Pretty sure Nightcrawler never came back because Alan Cumming and Bryan Singer hated each other.

Yeah, but we actually get more specific on the other ones in the film :) Oh, and poor Riptide?

Cummings also hated the makeup process. I have heard rumors that Nightcrawler will appear in Apocalypse.

Don't know there does seem to be a gap there. Maybe we will get a comic or something that will fill in that time period. And yeah without seeing the movie. I can't guess more about the rest. Hopefully, I will have some better theories after I see it.

What I also didn't expect (concerning the post-credits scene):

Spoiler: show
That we actualyl get to see Apocalypse's face, though I assume that is kinda like Thanos in The Avengers - temporary.

It feels silly asking this when I'm seeing it in 24 hours, but how does the film end? The script had the Apocalypse-possesses-Magneto bit that was widely reported. Does it just end at the school now, once Wolverine returns?

Nope, that's the second-to-last scene. The ending:

Spoiler: show
Wolverine can't remember much of anything from the past 30 years or so and says that the last thing he remembers is drowning. Then the scene flashes back to the 70s with Wolverine being fished out from underwater, where Magneto sent him flying during the final showdown (he drove some metal through him that kept him underwater with its weight). Then Stryker says that he'll take over from then, but in the final moments you see that it is actually Mystique posing as Stryker. The end.

Post Re: X-Men: Days of Future Past
Huh. That's interesting. I guess Wolverine's gonna be in APOCALYPSE.

Here's how that bit plays out in the script (where Stryker has just been 'Bill' the whole time and his identity is revealed here at the end):

[Spoiler, I guess...]

Spoiler: show
(Cut from Xavier's "What's the last thing you remember?" to...)

EXT. DC WOODS - PAST - DAY

Logan’s body lays in the woods. A pack of SOLDIERS finds him.
They check his vitals.

SOLDIER
We got him. He’s alive, sir.

They turn to see: BILL emerge. He looks at Logan.

BILL
Amazing...the damage he took...just
amazing.

Logan’s eyes flutter open, semi-conscious, in pain. Bill
leans over him, shines a light in his eyes.

BILL (CONT’D)
Do you know where you are?

LOGAN
No.

BILL
Do you have any idea what happened
to you...?

Logan looks up, hazy.

LOGAN
Yeah... I took some really bad
acid.

Bill looks to the soldiers.
BILL
Load him into the truck.

SOLDIER
Yes sir, Captain Stryker.

And we realize for the first time: BILL is CAPTAIN WILLIAM
STRYKER, the greatest enemy mutants will ever know.

SOLDIER 2
We’ll need to log it. What do you
want us to put on the report?

BILL
Just put down X.

The beginning of Weapon X. They load Logan’s body onto a
truck. As the doors snap shut, we SMASH TO--

(Then it cuts to Magneto alone in the desert as Apocalypse finds him.)

They've changed quite a bit of stuff. We know very early on that it is Stryker. Even his son Jason is referenced.

I'm pretty sure what I read is very rough, maybe the first draft after Singer came onboard officially to direct. Juggernaut's in it instead of Quicksilver.

Well, luckily they have changed that because a scene involving Quicksilver is THE best scene of the whole film. Most people at my showing agreed on that. Age of Ultron's Quicksilver will now have something to live up to.

I'm really looking forward to the unanimous positive reaction to Quicksilver inevitably being announced for APOCALYPSE as a contrast to the same people freaking out about him beforehand.
