This movie has to win special effects and sound at the Oscars.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
ATJ drags the film a lot, he is so bland.
I think the film is great for being what it is - a basic monster movie. It doesnt blow its wad and sets a very heavy atmosphere. Great pacing.
anyone getting bored must have very short attention spans

From what I've seen of previews, and movies that could have amazing effects but haven't been previewed yet, one must consider X-Men, Malificent, Edge of Tomorrow, Transformers, Apes, Interstellar, and Hobbit. I'm sure I missed a few too.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
I'm not sure yet, while the Godzilla effects are incredible (The first fire shot is downright so cool you wish the rest of the film could be that), it's not like the other creatures or the rest are really amazing. Typical dark or in the rain, or fog monster stuff. Which is a shame as I was really excited about the Vegas shot or when the Battle first happened but both are literally 5 seconds in length before they go back to the ever boring TV News or Army Drone footage of them.

The Muta weren't original, but they did feel a lot more alive than any of the stiff kaiju in Pacific Rim.

If I'm being honest it's probably a B -- the characters are the definition of bland.
But man, it's so entertaining.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
A fucking disapointment. How many seconds was Godzilla in full size on screen? And why the hell was EVERY (except for the 5-7 seconds at the end) shot of Godzilla IN THE DARK??? It's so damn annoying. This could have been such an awesome movie but they failed completely. Aaron Taylor Johnson was badly miscast and for a movie which relied so much on human characters, they should have found someone better. This movie is just 120 minutes of fucking glimpses of Godzilla and boring ATJ shit.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
Bradley Witherberry is completely right on this one.
Give me glimpses of the monster for the first hour, that's fine by me, but after that you have to deliver and Godzilla just didn't.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
The nighttime shots did work well for the fire. That wouldn't have been as cool in the day.
Also ATJ doesn't do much, but that could been changed with just an additional scene or two. This guy just gets home fron 14 months of service, has to go bail his dad out of jail, in Japan, right before he's about to get laid, finds out that giant monsters are real and are about to eat everyone's face and witnesses his father die. That's alot to go through. One scene showing how he's more comfortable following the chain of command than dealing with life situations would have solved mot of his character issues, and excused him for nearly killing his wife and kid by saying "there's three giant monsters coming, just stay where you are."
Though I will give him credit for nailing his most important scene in the movie. He and Godzilla are both weary, neither want to go on. They look each other in the eye and are kindred spirits.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
Of course there were some breathtaking shots and I'm not against some monster action at night, but all of it? I've got the same problem with Godzilla 98 and Pacific Rim, but those movies at least didn't hide their monsters for the entire movie.
The whole movie felt like a giant trailer with endless teasing but never showing.

Godzilla was kind of lame, especially how he just dips at the end. Also Ken Watanabe is not getting any flack. If I had to hear him say the balance of nature one more time I was going to throw my soda at the screen. Every line of his was awful, not to mention him having to be the token guy to mispronounce Godzilla.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
lol, Is it really ignorance when I'm against them using the only non American cast member to say it, even if it is trying to play homage to past films. But you could be right that I didn't see the sophistication of this Godzilla film.
Also worst "dog in a disaster movie" scene yet.

 Re: Godzilla (2014)
aaron taylor-johnson and sally hawkins are british. juliette binoche is french. there are actually only two americans among the main cast.
i think what you meant to say is non-WHITE cast member. glad i could clear up your racism.
