Three $150+ million R-rated comedies this summer?
A Million Ways to Die in the West, Neighbors and 22 Jump Street - it could totally happen! That's crazy.

This will happen. All three of them look appealing.

I don't think A Million Ways gets there.
Maybe I'm not the target audience for it but it looks forgettable.

Only 22 will make it. The other two should get past 100m but not guaranteed.

Neighbors is first out of the gate and it looks really good has 3 weekends before A Million Ways. I think it getting to $150m. Right now A Million Ways is shaky of the 3 movies because 22 releases just 2 weeks after it. Still I believe the good will of Ted is big enough that Million Ways will open much bigger.

Also another one not to forget: Sex Tape. I don't think it will make it to $150 million, but considering Bad Teacher made $100 million and this one has a very marketable concept, I could see the film getting up to $125 million.

Re: Three $150+ million R-rated comedies this summer?
I saw Neighbors last week and I think it will miss $150 million. It was funny, but most of the funny scenes were in the trailer and it isn't absolutely HYSTERICAL. It will be a hit for sure, but I think it will top out around $120 million.

I think Sex Tape will break out. Second only to 22Jump this summer.

Re: Three $150+ million R-rated comedies this summer?
A Million Ways to Die in the West is a strange one. Obviously its position as Seth MacFarlane's follow-up to Ted is very notable, yet I still cannot entirely see 150 million dollars' worth of people paying to see a randomly farcical Western. It also stars MacFarlane in the flesh, which is a gamble.

I agree with David - I think 100m will be a tough enough milestone to crack for it.

A Million Ways will open big enough to make $100m but I do believe $150m might be too much of an ask for a Western comedy.

I kinda feel like all 3 will miss 150 but we'll see. I'm not really sensing a huge increase for 22 Jump Street.

Re: Three $150+ million R-rated comedies this summer?
Million Ways doesn't even look like it will break $100m.
Sex Tape looks rather like a miss, kind of like Bad Teacher's struggle to $100m, and Diaz is just older now whilst the trailer is bland.
Neighbours could make it and 22 JS.

Sex Tape will struggle to $100m if it gets there for sure which is why I believe Lecter didn't consider it here.

Yeah, so this isn't going to happen. But I believe Sex Tape could replace Neighbors as a potential $150m grosser. But then, A Million Ways to Die in the West has nothing to get replaced with, because there's no buzz around it at all, so I don't see $150m total there either.

But perhaps the long absence of comedy Westerns will mean that it can make $150m. Who knows. I hope if it's good it can make $150m. But the signs do not look good for it.

With the opening that Neighbors is looking at I think we will have our first $150m comedy.

From the trailers I've seen, A Million Ways To Die In The West appears much close in tone, quality, and spirit to Blazing Saddles than it does to any of the other mediocre or worse examples you quoted. Sure, it's not going to beat the adjusted record, but it's going to cross the $150m mark with ease. It's going to have most of Ted's audience plus an older skewing demo too - - I'm predicting $235m dom.

Re: Three $150+ million R-rated comedies this summer?
Well, I think the major conflict is that older audiences might not respond well to McFarlane's sense of humor, and younger audiences did not really grow up with westerns being a huge thing. The two crowds might not complement each other so much as cancel each other out.
