Looking for the pundits to weigh in on how this movie will do.

Personally I have even less interest in this movie than Capt America 2. The previous Spidey failed to break 65 even on a memorial day 2012 But the market for this will be very very wide open. I do think the addition of Jamie Foxx will be a huge benefit. That being said ill say:

Spiderman opened over 4th of July weekend, had it opened on a Friday and not a Tuesday it would have easily did over 100 million for the weekend It has the record for biggest Tuesday of all time by almost 35%. Also there is already a prediction thread for ASM2.

I know we've all joked about it, but no one told me Sony was literally laying out every plot point in the marketing.

Though, to be fair, the Raimi Spider-Man 2 also had a cheez-it tie-in.

I shouldn't rag on this too much, but hype just feels weaker than it did for CA2, both online and off. It honestly feels a bit weaker than Thor 2 as well, but I'll give Spidey the benefit of the doubt over the Norse god.

The later marketing has been focusing on Green Golbin, which isn't exactly a good way of differentiating itself from the Raimi films.

It's a fair point about the OD, though. It got that high on a Tuesday before a holiday weekend, which was very impressive. Everything about this movie reminds of the way the last two Hobbit films have played out, so I'm pretty much expecting it to have the same OD as ASM1 despite being a Friday.


And then there's Algren. Sub 200.

Oh, it will open huge. 100 million or higher for sure. It is Spider-Man. Sony is advertising it to Heaven and beyond, almost mounting separate and enormous campaigns for it as an action movie, as a love story, etc., not to mention the numerous high-profile tie-ins. It can draw families, casual action fans, nerds, and so on and so forth. It will open huge through sheer force of will on the studio's part and because people simply love Spider-Man.

Nikke Finke posted it on Twitter, and I've heard the same thing from friends: industry is expecting between $92-95m OW.

The $35.8 million opening day was good, but Transformers had the same release date five years prior and probably sold more tickets despite being a franchise starter.

Well ASM was unnecessary at that time so it opening that high was great number.

Considering the lackluster performance of part 3 and the relatively small wait between films, I think its opening was as best as it could have been even with Raimi attached. Legs were pretty crappy though.

Actually BOM has provided a 34/10/56 split for 3D/IMAX/2D for TASM's opening 6 days. Assuming that held on OD, I get an estimated 3.9M tickets.

NRG Tracking:
Obviously, Spider-Man tracking is one week earlier than CA2, but it's hard to imagine Sony can actually do anything else at this point to raise awareness interest levels.

I'm thinking the worst case scenario at this point is a $85 million opening and a $205 million finish. The best case is a $104 million opening and a $260 million finish. Frankly, at this point, I don't see a scenario in which it beats the first film.
