 Re: The Tech thread
Anything. Youtube, netflix, just the Chrome browser. It all lags. I have no idea why.

 Re: The Tech thread
When you use you're phone, you're just sending the Chromecast an endpoint. It connects to your router and the phone is no longer involved. The way you're using your Chromebook, you're Chromebook is decoding the stream as you watch it. Chromebooks are awesome, but they're not very powerful, so having them as the decoder introduces lag.
I haven't looked, but I would expect there to be an app that helps alleviate this problem by making the Chromebook work much in the same way the phone does, just sending an endpoint and not doing the decoding.

 Re: The Tech thread
Hmm! That makes sense.
I'll do some research. But it's not a big deal. It was awesome.

Another acquisition for Facebook: $2b for Oculus. As a mean to battle Google Glass, I suppose. Virtual reality WhatsApp!

 Re: The Tech thread
I don't know why Facebook would want to try and compete with Google. Are they really threatened by Google+?

They just don't want to be left out of the next medium, as they're already left out of the current ones, and it limits them greatly.

AMD going to hell. They should give up the CPU business and focus on GPUs and their APUs (which I think are a very nice and interesting thing).

 Re: The Tech thread
The set-top cable box market ain't gonna be worth a dang soon. Time Warner is experimenting with Internet delivery of All cable programming, as a streaming service. The glassless 3D Ultra D 4K tv is available for pre-order and is on display at CES now. Rival Dolby 3D has been in development for several years, but still MIA. http://www.izontv.com/https://www.facebook.com/UltraD3MIT has developed a prototype glassless 3D [rpjection system that, so far, only projects an image size that is equal to the aperture of the projector's lens. Expect a practical system to utilize many digital projectors and/or anything other than a conventional centerfield axis of light. http://web.media.mit.edu/~gordonw/Compr ... Projector/Off the record and speaking as myself, this convention of centerfield focus and illumination is one of the main reasons why we do not yet have a practical glassless 3D projection system. Why? Because the principal focus is centerfield and because the light itself is centerfield. 3D depends on time-by-distance-as-difference, and a centerfield focus or illumination has zero difference due to being equal in distance from a round convex perimeter to center-of-lens. Currently, only foreground-to-background size and whatever perspective lenses which are inserted before striking the principal focal lens, and high contrast lighting or color depth or use of a lens with a shallow field-of-focus are responsible for any impression of depth-of-field. However, this is insufficient for 3D.

I would Love to go to CES. But the last I checked, it is closed to the general public. Why don't they extend the show an extra week for the rest of us?

 Re: The Tech thread
Anybody use a Samsung Galaxy S6? General thoughts of you do.
Anyone use those Samsung VR glasses or a knockoff of it? I saw a review by flossycarter on YouTube and he was trumping it up. I am interested in getting a new or used GS6 64 or 128 gb when the prices go down a bit more.

resident wrote: Why don't they extend the show an extra week for the rest of us? Extend it an extra WEEK? Jesus. Four days is long enough. It's very tiring going to exhibitions, especially one as flooded as CES. Anyway, CES is meant as a platform for launching new products in the hope of generating exposure and buzz with the media, and bringing brands together with distributors. The public really don't know what questions to ask, and they can act quite unprofessional and silly. Industry professionals, business people and media types know how to get the right information out of the exhibiting brands without wasting any time, and they know what to do with the information afterwards. Dealing with the public is for retailers, not manufacturers.
