Today or Sunday THE WOLF OF WALL STREET will become Martin Scorsese's biggest hit here - in admissions!

Fack Ju Göhte is unbelievable. I was watching 12 Years yesterday and I swear the movie that sold the most tickets was Göhte.

Have you seen it already mark? Or Arthur?

Do the mega big German films ever get released outside of German-speaking territories? I don't remember Der Shuh des Manitu or Traumshiff Surprise getting releases here, even though they were huge in Germany. I mean, a good foreign language film can do well anywhere, right? The Intouchables did amazing over here in Holland, and German language/culture are a lot closer to ours than French.

Wasn't Der Schuh des Manitu released in the US at some point?

According to IMDB it was, but only at some film festival, as it was in most other countries it saw a release in. That seems to be the case for most German films, but actual releases seem to happen in only a few other territories, most of them with a substantial German-speaking population.

I don't get why they don't get released elsewhere, seems like there's money to be made.

German films are in dire need of globalisation.

German comedies are usually sold to Eastern European countries but mostly nowhere else. Dramas/Dramadies like GOOD BYE LENIN or LOLA RENNT or DAS BOOT did quite good all over the world...

Der Untergang was shown in the UK. I went to see it. It was in small indie cinemas for the older crowd.

First one did 1.75m admissions and depending on weather it looks to me like RIO 2 could end in the same ballpark...
