Re: 2014 Academy Awards nominations! (Thu. Jan. 16, 5:38 AM
My two biggest disappointments are no score nomination for 12 Years a Slave and no Film Editing nomination for The Wolf of Wall Street, otherwise I am quite thrilled with the nominations. American Hustle might have tied for the most nominations, scored big across the acting board, but I think the Wolf showing a late surge in power is the biggest winner this morning.

Did Gatsby not even campaign for their fucking songs?
What the fuck.

What the fuck. Perhaps it was vote splitting, especially between the Lana song and the Florence song. The Jay Z and xx songs were also in contention.

 Re: 2014 Academy Awards nominations!
In the end, zero nominations for Rush. Cheers, Arthur.

 Re: 2014 Academy Awards nominations!
I would say the way things went this morning is a sure sign that Leo is going to sneak in for the win last second, but the lack of an editing nomination to Dallas Buyers Club's favor is making me take a step back in this proclamation.

I don't mind these nominations, except this was a huge comeback year for Hanks and he really should have gotten a nomination for his performance.

So happy for Sally Hawkins and Amy Adams. They make up for the lack of Llewyn Davis.

 Re: 2014 Academy Awards nominations!
I presume when BP is announced, it will still be 12 Years a Slave. I don't see a scenario where it's not.
Though I thought the same about Lincoln, The Social Network, Avatar, Brokeback Mountain...

The Croods is a lot better than MU. I'm most happy about Leo's nom. I really hope he wins this time. And Jennifer Lawrence, of course.

THE UMBRELLA ANIMATED SHORT DIDN'T GET NOMINATED?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME It was basically a weaker remake of the Paperman from last year. Glad it didn't get nominated so this category can be taken more seriously instead of it just rewarding shorts by default of lack of material to chose from.

 Re: 2014 Academy Awards nominations!
Can't remember how the votes go, but it seems there will be a lot of different Oscar member supporters behind: 12 YAS, AH, Wolf, but Gravity could be the consistent #2. I still think there's a slight chance it could get best picture if 12 YAS/AH are too split. The Academy is becoming much more diverse over some of the guilds and so could see Gravity resonate consistently in #2.

Gravity, 12YAS, AH, Wolf, Her

Should be also noted that despite it being her 5th nomination, this is Amy's first Leading nod.

Hobbit doesn't get nominated for Best Makeup but Lone Ranger does? Was Tonto's dead bird hat better than Radagast's?

I mean, I hope Get A Horse! wins. But the best animation I've seen this year was The Blue Umbrella.

For me, I'd say its the strongest slate since 2003 with Mystic River/LOTR3/Lost In Translation/Seabiscuit/M&C.
