I believe there is still plenty of time for mid-tier properties that can be added later (next year) to make second half of May or any month stronger.

MOS2 was going to open in the 140s anyway, add Batman it is easily 200m+.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
I'm sure some films will end up moving due to delays. My money's on Terminator, JP4 and/or ID2.
In fact, I am ready to predict that ID2 will move to July 2016, because of two words: Will Smith. If Will Smith suddenly decides he's in and/or Emmerich suddenly decides that he does want Smith on the movie - which I really really think is going to end up happening, especially with both AE and WHD floundering - they will delay production in order to write him into the movie and accommodate his schedule.
And really, how could they pass up the opportunity to release it on the 20th anniversary of the original?
And if SW VII doesn't make Memorial Day 2015 and JP4 stays on schedule, it could move into that slot, where JP2 previously broke the Memorial Day record.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
I too believe some of the movies should move either to Winter or to March to have breathing room. 2012 did exactly that with blockbusters and it worked very well but it still had months (June, August) where there could have been bigger movies.

We knew all along but now it's official - no AVATAR 2 in 2015... http://www.deadline.com/2013/08/fox-jam ... ore-554531

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
I hope they dont release MOS2 in May.
That would be a dumb Idea.
MOS will be big but it would be hard for the film to generate the insane hype to get a massive opening weekend.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
Borrowing Gez's charts to look at the schedule. I didn't include ALL the movies from the schedule just the ones that have potential to be the big movie of that month. MadGez wrote: January - Frankenstein, Kitchen Sink, The Boy Next Door
February - Fifty Shades of Grey, Seventh Son, SpongeBob 2, The Longest Ride (Sparks adaptation), The Wedding Ringer (Kevin Hart movie)
March - Cinderella, Penguins of Madagascar, Insurgent, The Secret Service, Friday the 13th,
April - Fast & Furious 7, Insidious 3
May - The Avengers 2, Mad Max, Tomorrowland, Monster Trucks
June - BOO, Inside Out (Pixar), Pan, Ted2, San Andreas, Jurassic World
July - Terminator, Minions, Ant-Man, Batman/Superman, Peregrine's Home for Peculiars (Time Burton movie)
August - Assassin's Creed, Smurfs 3, Bourne
September - Hotel Transylvania 2
October - The Jungle Book
November - Bond, Peanuts, Hunger Games 4, The Good Dinosaur (Pixar)
December - Inferno, KFP3, Alvin & Chipmunks 4, Star Wars 7, MI5. Live By Night (Affleck written-directed movie)
January needs some big movie still. October is wide open for another one or two $100m or even $200m grosser. August is also relatively weak. May can handle more IMO.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
Yes October is still wide open. It would be worth moving one of Alvin or KFP3 to October.
Still plenty of good release dates left. May does need another high profile film late in the month. Still time for some big films to be scheduled though.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
May lacks movies for action fans outside of Avengers which will also attract families. Drama and comedies will most likely be scheduled later in 2014.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
So they just recently announced a Paul Blart 2 movie is moving forward with filming set to start in the spring. It would not be surprising to see them try and have a January 2015 release though another date is also possible. It's definitely been far too long (6 years since #1). However, B level family films seems to do very well in January, so it could do well again.
What's intriguing about this announcement is that there is a possibility for a $150 m + movie to come out from every month of the year in 2015:
January: Paul Blart Feb: Fifty Shades of Grey March - Cinderella/Penguins of Madagascar April - Fast & Furious 7 May - The Avengers 2 June - Inside Out/Ted 2/Jurassic World July - Batman/Superman August - Bourne September - Hotel Transylvania 2 October - The Jungle Book November - Bond/Hunger Games 4/The Good Dinosaur (Pixar) December - Star Wars 7
8/12 months could also potentially see a $200 m + film. Paul Blart in January would actually round out the year even better.

Paul Blart 2 will not do $150M or even $100M. Kevin James ain't that popular anymore.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
Kevin James wasn't popular before Paul Blart as well IMO though the time gap is just TOO much for PB2 to make $150m, maybe $100m if the movie is good.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
So 7 weeks into the new year we saw these opening weeks:
$132m American Sniper $107m Fifty Shades of Grey $63m Spongebob Squarepants $50m Kingsman $49m Taken 3
Pretty impressive...

Fantastic start. For the BO to be matching 2010 so far is also fantastic when you consider what is still to come.

 Re: 2015 - A modern record year?
Even with Finding Dory, Independence Day 2, Batman v Superman, Bourne 5 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 pushed to 2016, 2015 did just fine...
