Re: Hobbit 2 and 3 will do each less than Hobbit 1 It had Transformers, Fast 7, and was opening the same weekend as Planet of the Apes with Hercules the following weekend. That's a lot for a mostly filler film coming out 7 months after the last sequel (Which we also know means a much lower gross) Then Guardians of the Galaxy and Ninja Turtles. Opening against Apes didn't even guarantee a #1 opening.

Either way, it would still be destroyed if it were in July, even in a scenario where Fast 7 is moved.

Re: Hobbit 2 and 3 will do each less than Hobbit 1 July as it stands now (if FF7 moves) is weak. Regardless its staying in December and will do well for it. Even if its filler - Im sure its a better film than 90% of next summers blockbusters.

2. I think the first film was actually well-received by general audiences in it's home viewing run.
If it drops off, I don't think it will be by much. I do believe there is a chance for this to increase on the first film.
