There's a brief stretch, after Selena Gomez leaves, that this movie comes close to being good. The bedroom gun scene and singing Everytime were both excellent scenes, and I really thought that Selena may have been the problem with the movie up until that point. Unfortunately I lost interest again about ten minutes later until the end of the movie.

This an ugly ugly movie. The lighting makes even the most beautiful people look disgusting. Perhaps the context too, which may have been the point, but I don't care. The forty minutes before Alien shows up are nearly intolerable.

D+ for those two scenes I mentioned. Without them it would have been an easy F.

And I would've said Jlaw > any of the girls in this movie up until Selena's Thanksgiving halftime performance...

I'd actually argue that these events didn't happen. Only up to a certain point. I don't believe the girls came out of this alive. That's my opinion anyway.

They drove the orange sports car at the end. That means they came out of it alive.

I also believe they die. This is why the very final moment returns to them kissing Alien's body and running toward the house. The scene where they conquer the entire gang and ride into the sunset rich and victorious is their video-game style vision of how events should transpire because they regard themselves as powerful, so perfect and untouchable.

There was nothing to imply that.

I would be the first to choose that ending if I saw something from the director that implied that. But there was nothing. You can't just make up your own ending.

I don't think they die imo. There's a scene before the whole thing happens where they're talking to their parents about how they want to be good and the masks are in the water.

Don't they mention at least once, if not throughout, how the girls overcome any trepidation by imagining life as a video game? This is one clue not everything we see is 100 percent real, not to mention the general hallucinatory nature of the film. And I cannot help but read significance into Harmony Korine's choice to, after their "victory," cut to the moments before the shootout and focus on them kissing Alien's corpse as a farewell gesture. The intimacy and sadness of the actual ending as contrasted with, "Woo! They shot everyone dead and escaped in the sports car!" indicates to me the truth of their fate at the end of the pier differs from the heightened girl-power action sequence we are shown at first.

And, to be honest, I can choose to interpret a film however I please. This is part of the process, part of the game. I am not beholden to see and understand an image exactly as you do or exactly as the next person does.

No. I do not have the scene queued on my television, but I am 99.9 percent it is intended to be a flashback to right before they run toward the house and start shooting.

I completely, 100% agree with this interpretation of the ending. I thought it from the first time I saw it and I still think it after seeing it six or seven times.

I adore this movie, so, so much. I just hate how so many hate it. I'm almost embarrassed when I tell people it is on my top ten of the year lol

It is almost this year's Magic Mike in the sense people not keyed into the actual nature of the projects and their respective directors will not get it because the films do not have an Oscar friendly air of gilded respectability. "The one where Channing Tatum is a stripper?" "The trashy one where the Disney girls are in their bikinis the entire time?"

This movie's growing on me. Very hypnotic and I love that.

ya, it's become one of my favorites of the year so far. (not that hard though since this year has kinda been whatever) Would be nice to see Franco get a nomination for one of the major award shows.

These year has been largely forgettable. Spring Breakers was a breath of fresh air.

It was purposely trashy. The director wants everyone to see the world as the ugly place he sees. It's no different than God Bless America.

Yep. I do not believe whatsoever the girls would come out of that alive and I don't believe it's the intention of the filmmaker that they did. It's fantasy.

I think I may still like The Bling Ring a bit more than this but the film is really good. Everyone in Spring Breakers is a horrible person (even Gomez to an extent) but their story is still very interesting that you just go along with it anyway. I think this may be my favorite Franco performance ever as he had me laughing quite a bit throughout the film. The visuals are strong but I mean, Drive still does everything superior y'all. Ashley Benson is definitely the standout of the main girls both acting and looks wise. The "Everytime" scene is one of my favorites of the year.

It's enjoyable for the visuals and filmmaking ambition, plus the hot bitches+Franco being funny combination.

However it represents America more than it has interesting thoughts about America, to me.
