Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations anticipation
I badly, badly hope Redford is nominated here. I will become very scared if he isn't. Sorry, Leo and Forest, but you both need to jog on.

Bold to predict a Hanks snub in the male-lead category.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations anticipation
I'm feeling bold, haha. I just feel like Captain Phillips has been sliding, and has not been getting as many notices as expected(though it's definitely worthy). I could see it being shut out in the same way as United 93 (though that got a directing nom). I think Hanks is definitely the weakest in the category right now, and it is a very competitive category.

Also, I expect The Wolf of Wall Street to pull a Django here due to its late arrival.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations anticipation
Possible huge surprises (SAG always likes to sneak in a surprise or two, hence my Ford prediction):
1. Forest Whitaker for Best Actor 2. Brie Larson for Best Actress 3. Completely snubbing The Wolf of Wall Street

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations anticipation
The Wolf of Wall Street not receiving any nominations would not be very surprising considering how few screenings were held for it compared to its competition.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations anticipation
Yeah, I don't expect Wolf of Wall Street to do well here given it's the last contender to get screened. American Hustle should avoid such problem though.

My no-gut-no-glory type of prediction for tomorrow would be "Her" getting an ensemble nomination.

Haha, a nom for Daniel Brühl!! In your face, David! (yes, I realize that does not guarantee an Oscar nod, but it certainly does increase his chances). Also, Whitaker!!! I fucking knew it!!!

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations
These Ensemble noms are weird...except for 2007, when we also had a weird-ass line-up in the Ensemble category (only No Country for Old Men went on to get a BP nod at the Oscars...with films like 3:10 to Yuma and Hairspray nominated alongside it), the match has rarely been worse than 3/5 (meaning that usually at least three of the SAG-Ensemble nominees also get a BP nod at the Oscars). In the recent five years, the SAG Ensemble matched the Oscars 4/5 or 5/5 each year.
So: Dallas Buyers Club, August: Osage County and The Butler - will any of those get bak into the BP race now? I assume The Butler has the best shot due to being a major hit.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations
Wow, I am surprised to see Daniel Brühl. In my face indeed. I was certain Rush would fly under the radar. But good for him. It is a strong performance, and I dig him in general. No Robert Redford. The Globes better not snub him.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations
The Butler and Dallas Buyers Club could both definitely be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. They are widely seen. They are topical and poignant. They have dynamite casts.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations
To be honest I don't think Redford is getting nominated for the Oscar. He hasn't been campaigning enough, it's an incredibly competitive category and the film hasn't been widely seen.
Shocked at Brühl but good for him. Also happy Barkhad snuck in.
The rest of the categories are mostly expected. Best Ensemble should have really included Prisoners though, especially over The Butler (which has approximately 3 good performances in its ensemble despite the cast) and Dallas Buyers (which I LOVED, but it isn't really an ensemble piece).
They must have really not enjoyed Her.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations
I am not sure when was the last time that the Best Actor category was THAT competitive. I mean all of the five nominees here have a shot and then there are also Michael B. Jordan, Robert Redford, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale!

Honestly, The Butler is in because half of SAG stars in it.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations
I am almost certain this will be the Best Actress lineup at the Oscars, too. Amy Adams won't generate enough momentum to kick any of them out.

Re: Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations
Some interesting noms. Dallas Buyers Club getting an ensemble nod is sort of weird. None of the actors besides the main three really have anything to do in it. Hmm.
I think this Supporting Actress lineup will match exactly at the Oscars.
