FROZEN
I really liked this animated film. I was actually dreading going to see the film because of the Olaf character and the whole though of watching a film with all these children in the theatre, but wom convinced me to see it. I ended up liking it. The songs were very good and well done imo. That really made the film for me. I also enjoyed Olaf. He was really funny. The two princesses and the whole plot was good and entertaining. I thought most of the animation was very nice although some of it was very plain it seemed like in the ballroom sequence when they opened the castle to the public and you all these people dancing around. The background characters just looked very ho hum and the dresses were pretty plain too. That aside, I liked the turn of that Prince. That was a surprise and I almost thought she was gonna be frozen frozen in the end.
Grade - A

 Re: Frozen (2013)
I enjoyed it I guess, but overall I don't think it's that great of an animated film. First off I didn't feel any chemistry between Anna and Kristoff. Rupunzel and Flynn in Tangled felt way more to be together and like their relationship was the heart of the story. Here it felt like "well we have to include a love story". Also Kristoff in general is one of the worst male leads in a Disney film. The only thing he does memorable is the reindeer singing joke. Other than that he has no charisma, almost as if it was the point to make him just a ordinary unappealing guy, which isn't that fun an idea for an animated film.
In general I found Elsa more compelling than Anna. She was the one with internal conflict, who was being held back by factors against her control. Plus she had the big song, could do cool shit and was better looking. It's a weird dynamic when Anna is supposed to be the lead and supposed to be carrying this love story when Elsa felt like the more dominant character. Looking forward to Frozen 2 when they give her the romance plot. I thought the prince was going to end up with her before he turned evil.
Olaf is pretty funny and I usually wanted him to be on screen. Something was a little off about how quickly he and his gimmick was introduced though. Overall while I liked him, he always felt like a calculated decision by Disney. Almost like they were laughing at their own joke too much when making him.
It's fine but the closest non Pixar Disney has gotten to making a 'classic' film to me is The Princess and the Frog. Tangled is also pretty good, as mentioned Rapunzel-Finn is better than this relationship, it has a good villain and memorable songs. Not impressed by Wreck-It Ralph at all. Frozen is better than Ralph but still not great to me.

 Re: Frozen (2013)
Shack literally got NOTHING right in that review.
You do realize that this movie has NOTHING to do with a relationship between Anna and Kristoff, right? Anna and Elsa are the leads. It's about THEM. It's THEIR love story.
Also, how quickly they introduced Olaf? Huh? He wasn't in the first half of the movie.

 Re: Frozen (2013)
Eh things just didn't click with Shack, much like his review didn't click with me, but what are you going to do?
Anyways, it was a very good film, with a great story and wonderful art direction. For me, the relationship between Kristoff and Anna, while obvious, worked. At least for what the purposes for the movie, the relationship fools you into thinking the film is about their love, a cliche story of true romance finding its way through unexpected places. However, unexpectedly the movie is about the sisters, which rightfully brings the film full circle. So, yeah, this film worked wonders on that level with the Kristoff and Anna playing jokes well off each other making their journey fun and memorable.
As for Elsa, yes her character was great and all, but I'm with Bradley on this one. She feels like a fake plastic doll in terms of her animation to the point that I had a hard time taking her seriously. She has the interesting dilemmas, but nothing about her lamented skin, bulging eyes, stick body, and inflated head was interesting at all. In fact my biggest qualm with this movie was the animation as a whole. Call me a sucker for hand drawn animation, but the animation would have been greatly improved if you sat down Miyazaki and his crew and got some real artists involved. Instead with get Barbie the Snow Queen.
Last their is the music, what all Disney films are truly judged on. Here, the music fails to impress. It has its moments, but to me, quite appropriately, a lot of the music felt like it was ripped right out of Wicked, one of my least favorite Broadway hits that managed to get widely popular. And all of this disappointment came right after that wonderful opening number that really had some magnitude to it.
But there was one song I did like, and that was Olaf's solo. In fact, here I was thinking Olaf would be an annoying product of the producers' drive to ring in some phoned in laughs, and the character worked. He is built well throughout the film with visual ques linking his character to the sisters' childhood, and sure enough once brought to life he brings the innocence of their childhood with him. Not to mention his humor actually works without feeling cutesy or pandering.
So overall it was a good, very good Disney film, but much like Wreck-it-Ralph it doesn't quite get to that classic level despite being memorable and a worthy addition to the Disney library.
I don't know, a B+ or an A-

Also, the first act is way, way too long and dull. The shit with taking away the animals voices was so stupid. The second act is incredibly superior.

I prefer the first half, actually. I think the music is FAR superior. And it includes the GREATEST Broadway song in the history of Broadway.

Oh please. Defying Gravity isn't even the best song in the musical. It would be a seriously great musical if it was just a little tighter. There are moments of brilliance in it, but it's just "good." Avenue Q deserved the Tony.

 Re: Frozen (2013)
As long as the Elphaba has a FANTASTIC voice, I usually prefer No Good Deed. The more recent Elphaba's kind of annoy me. The role and essentially become a riff off. Nobody can just sing the fucking score without riffing their heads off constantly.

I agree with that. I saw it in the original run, and then again about 2 years ago here in Phoenix and the singing wasn't nearly as good.

 Re: Frozen (2013)
8,5/10 Easily the best animated film of the year. But I really don't know what to think about it. It's a very good film, but I just can't remove this feeling that they had a potential masterpiece in their hands and they wasted the opportunity. Olaf is a great character, and it's also great that he's just the usual (and perfect, I must say) comic sidekick, and not the main - or even only - reason to see the film. *cough* minions *cough* He probably deserved a few more absurd gags. The other characters are fine, though they could develop Elsa a little more. Or maybe I expected too much from an animated movie. The soundtrack has too many average or unnecessary songs, but a couple of them really hit the mark (Let It Go better win the Oscar...). Overall, there are some situations that could have been handled better, especially the ending, when Elsa discovers the warming power of love - which honestly feels like a scene from a Barbie cartoon. In general, the movie doesn't let the message or interpretation shine through the images, with a consequent simplistic, childish effect. The "Get a Horse" short is absolutely AMAZING, that alone was worth the 8,5€ spent for the ticket!

 Re: Frozen (2013)
I've seen this three times theatrically. Easily a record for me for times I've seen an animated film theatrically. I rarely even see them once on the big screen. Not even sure I've watched one three times total since I was a kid. But I adore this movie. The worst part for me is the short film before it. I thought it was boring. I swear it was longer the third time I went .

 Re: Frozen (2013)
Absolutely lived this. Perhaps the fact that this was the first movie my 3yr old watched in a theatre helps as well but it's just top shelf - from the animation to the characters and story.
Top 5 animated films for me up there with Ratatouille , TS3 and TLK.

I'm confused.
Why did Disney have Demi Lovato sing the promotional version of "Let It Go" when Menzel's version is much better? Stand out scene of a wonderful film.
