The two movies I loved this year, Gravity and Gatsby, will not win 12 Oscars.

Ok whatever. You, again, made an idiotic point that you refuse to explain because you just made the point to continue to act like an idiot.

Chippy wrote: It's funny how Lecter loved Gravity... yet takes every opportunity to bash it's Oscar chances at anything. What's the problem with that? I loved Skyfall more than any other film last year, yet I didn't go around claiming it'd be nominated for BP or win anything significant. I'm not one of those who just annoyingly love something and self-absorbingly think that because I love it, the rest of the world, including the Academy will as well. If Cuarón wins, I'd be happy because thatw as the best directing aI have seen this year so far, but I will not have built up my expectations just so I am able to say "fucking Academy" or whatnot. That's just ridiculous.

 Re: Best Supporting Actor 2013
I don't think you understand.
Gravity is not Skyfall. Gravity is a bona fide Oscar contender. It's extremely well recepted, by a very well respected director, with HUGE critical acclaim and a tour de force from it's lead.
That's Oscar stuff. I'm not saying it's winning, but to say "Oh, that would be undeserving" is asinine. It has a GREAT/GOOD shot at winning, for Picture and Actress. And a legitimate shot as Clooney being NOMINATED for his turn as George Clooney: Astronaut.
Just because another movie/actress has a better shot at winning those awards, doesn't mean they will.
Crash won Best Picture. Alan Arkin got nominated for Argo.

 Re: Best Supporting Actor 2013
What the fuck are you talking about? You are being asinine. All I said was that Clooney's nomination would be undeserved, which is 1. my opnion and 2. probably shared by many others here too.
Recepted? C'mon there. BTW, Skyfall was from an Oscar-winning director, whereas Cuarón is beloved online...and that's about it. At the same time, I am predictijg Gravity to get many many noms, ncluding BP and BD, just not win the biggies. I have never predicted Skyfall to bebe nominated in the firs place. So what the fuck are you talking about, boy?

 Re: Best Supporting Actor 2013
I didn't say you did. And Clooney's nom would not be undeserved. He essentially played the "hero" role for half the film. And it's GEORGE CLOONEY!

 Re: Best Supporting Actor 2013
At the moment I'm seeing....
Daniel Bruhl "Rush" Bradley Cooper "American Hustle" Michael Fassbender "12 Years a Slave"* Jonah Hill "The Wolf of Wall Street Jared Leto "Dallas Buyers Club"
Only alternatives I see happening... George Clooney "Gravity" James Gandolfini "Enough Said" Tom Hanks "Saving Mr. Banks" Jeremy Renner "American Hustle"
* projected winner
Even if "Banks" breaks out, Hanks' performance may be enough to overshadow his performance here despite being in two different categories. Renner will have a chance of getting nominated if all four of Adams, Bale, Cooper, and Lawrence get nominated. Bruhl would be the first one out if any of the alternatives got in.

 Re: Best Supporting Actor 2013
I do not see Brühl happening any longer. People are too ambivalent toward Rush.
If Philomena is a word-of-mouth hit among the upscale-adult audience, perhaps Dench's momentum can propel Coogan, too. I would love to see Academy Award nominee Steve Coogan.

Is Gandolfini officially being campaigned in this category? I really think the sentiment might be there to get him a posthumous nom.

Well, if he wins, then he does deserve it.
When Clooney was on-screen, I was instantly more interested with Gravity. When he was not, I could take it or leave it.

 Re: Best Supporting Actor 2013
My current predictions for this category. Seems like the hardest to predict of the majors so far, and these will change a lot.
Bradley Cooper, American Hustle Michael Fassbender, 12 Years a Slave James Gandolfini, Enough Said Tom Hanks, Saving Mr. Banks Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club

Only Fassbender and Leto seem 100 percent secured.

David wrote: Barkhad Abdi should be in serious contention here for playing the lead Somali pirate in Captain Phillips. A phenomenal performance. I know it would be a bit of an uphill battle just because, "George Clooney! Bradley Cooper! Michael Fassbender! Harrison Ford! Jared Leto! Jeremy Renner! ...Barkhad Abdi?" The performance is definitely a major achievement, though, and integral to the film. Perhaps Sony can turn his unique career arc as a Somali born actor into a positive. Just seen the film and I am on board with this ^ I hope Barkhad Abdi will get some recognition. It was a very authentic performance and he held his own against Hanks, which is an achievement onto itself.

Look like Jonah Hill is a contender to win this category after the first The Wolf of Wall Street screening.

Let's not be too reactionary. "Whoa! People say Jonah Hill is great in The Wolf of Wall Street! Michael Fassbender and Jared Leto no longer exist!"

 Re: Best Supporting Actor 2013
The Weinstein Company is campaigning Steve Coogan in this category for Philomena. I would love it if he started to gain a bit of traction. It is a long shot, but perhaps not impossible. Fassbender and Leto are in. And the next three in line would presumably be Bradley Cooper, Tom Hanks, and Jonah Hill, but maybe one of them will falter.
