Which film will be number one on Christmas Day?
It will be The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug's 13th day of play and Anchorman 2's eighth. 47 Ronin, Grudge Match, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and The Wolf of Wall Street open on Christmas Day.
Last year's top five on Christmas Day -
1. Les Misérables: $18,111,665 2. Django Unchained: $15,011,121 3. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: $11,238,529 4. Parental Guidance: $6,317,559 5. Jack Reacher: $5,297,600

In my opinion, 47 Ronin is going to do very well and exceed people's meager expectations. It will cross 100 million.
Anyway, I believe the second Hobbit film will do what the first could not and be number one on Christmas Day.

Wolf of Wall Street, even with a 3 hour running time.

The Wolf of Wall Street. If reviews are good and it is the big awards contender we expect it to be, I believe it can do $15-17 million opening day.

Laugh it up, cum-guzzler, but Keanu will show you how it's done.

100 Million is possible for Ronin. I think it will do 75 at least.

I kind of hope the movie about the producer of such films as:
Firestorm; Skeletons; The Elevator; Santa with Muscles; Prey of the Jaguar; Assault on Dome 4; Blood Money; and The Secret Agent Club.
Flops.

hobbit has zero chance of being number one. It has to be Wolf.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Anchorman pulls an upset.

Anchorman is in contention but among adult audience that will choose from either of these I'd say Wolf would get preference.

Re: Which film will be number one on Christmas Day?
Would be cool if Walter Mitty broke out but I don't see it. 47 Ronin has sub-50 gross all over it so I'll go with Wolf.

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. Why everyone thinks that Wolf of Wall Street will be #1, I really do not know. It's not even going to be a hit, in my opinion.

Re: Which film will be number one on Christmas Day?
Wolf of Wall Street should be No.1 with about $15m. It does have a solid pre-existing fanbase + Leo/Scorsese.
Then second will be between Hobbit and Anchorman with 11-12m each.
I do think Ronin can get to $60-$70m total.

Anyway, I believe the second Hobbit film will do what the first could not and be number one on Christmas Day. I think you could be, and hope you are, right on both of those. Anyone who has seen a movie at the theater I go to in the last three months knows 47 Ronin is coming out Christmas Day. The trailer has played before every single movie I've seen since the end of summer. Likewise, at the same theater, The Hobbit gets a preview advertising it for it to be seen on the Ultrascreen even if the trailer didn't show during the previews. 47 Ronin is the only other movie besides The Hobbit that I will likely see in the theater be the end of the year. I'm going to say The Hobbit for #1 Christmas Day.

I'm going to say The Hobbit for #1 Christmas Day. I agree that Ronin will have an audience. And likewise I do feel Smaug can indeed pull a TTT and increase in total gross over An Unexpected Journey. Even if the increase is slight (ie. $5-$10m).

Remember, Algren also said the Gatsby wouldn't be a hit. Because Leo wasn't a draw.

Magnus is also on record saying The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will flop.

Wolf. I'm thinking $12.5 million opening day for now. Though Anchorman 2 will claim the weekend.
