Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Maybe he is predicting that Japan or Germany will implode before the films' release. You never know.

Multiplyer: 4.71 Interesting that you think it will make 2.36 times as much as ROTS DOM but just 2.04 times as much OS. Considering how the DOM and OS markets have changed since 2005, that seems unlikely. The International crowd is no where near as Star Wars crazy as the Domestic crowd. But I was comparing it to another SW film, so this is already taken into account. I just think that a larger bump is more likely with the Domestic crowd, and I don't think star wars is the type of franchise that would get over 1b Internationally.

I'm sticking with my prediction that it will disappoint and end with $250m or less. I mean, it has happened many times before with hyped films.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
57M from previews + midnights? That's insane, I was thinking more like 40 - 45M (25M Previews + 20M Midnights). Don't think we'll see 55+ till the finale.
So like 210M OW, 700M Total

So like 210M OW, 700M Total including midnights my opening wknd prediction would be 216m, not much higher than yours, simply more front-loaded.

They've probably made at least half of that back in merchandise already.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
LOL! I'm watching the Star Wars marathon on Spiketv as we speak and seeing the prequels again it's easy to understand why fans are so mixed on the series. The acting/dialogue is horrible, but they each have their moments.
I'm expecting ALOT more from Abrams though.
That aside I'm curious to see how they will market this. Will we have to wait until TA2 for a teaser or could we get an announcement teaser like TH got back in December 2011 ? To create as much hype as possible I think they should release something next year around Christmas time, and then release a more epic/action oriented trailer with TA2.
A trailer with TA2 could absolutely slay with general audiences if done right.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Surprised this didn't get bumped after all the hype from the casting announcement. Even though most people don't know who the hell Oscar Isaac or Adam Driver are it was still a pretty big deal, especially with the confirmation that the original three leads are returning.
Predicting this is really tough considering how oddly structured December runs tend to be, but if I had to...
Friday: $66 million ($26 million previews) Saturday: $45 million Sunday: $42 million Opening Weekend: $153 million
Domestic Total: $670 million International Total: $920 million Worldwide Total: $1.59 billion

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
EPISODE III's opening weekend (after debuting on a Thursday) adjusts to $135m. There's no way EPISODE VII with an extra ten years of inflation and kids brought up on the prequels and CLONE WARS is only going to open to $153m.
(Also, if you include SITH's Thursday in its opening weekend, it would adjust to $197m.)

Opening weekend: $110 Domestic total: $390m Non-US total: $750m
So basically The Hobbit but bigger in America and slightly bigger WW.

I don't think this will make $600 million domestically. I am thinking along the lines of 160/540 if it is good.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Yeah I think 450-550m is where this could go.
This reminds me of the BOG Episode 1 forum. It's entertaining to go back and re- read expectations of some of the loonies back then. Titanic was supposed to be decimated in no time.

Magnus wrote: i mean, so much of the films potential comes down to the quality. If it's shit then yeah, 600m is probably not happening. But if it's a major crowd-pleaser, its going to beat Avatar. 200m+ OW, 3.8+ multiplier.
And I'm not in the camp that "its December so theres a limit to its OW". Yes, people will wait for WOM and the holidays. But a lot of fucking people won't because its mother fucking STAR WARS. The issue you miss magnus is that if the OW is on the higher end, the multiplier needs to come down. It isn't going to open to 200m and then get a 3.8. It will blow off too much steam on OW. I know it's 3D and a few days later, but come on. Demand within the general public is not going to exceed that of TDKR. Realistically i see 35 midnights, 80 for the opening day, 180 weekend, 475 total.

I agree with Magnus and think it will do at least 500. I have a lot of faith in JJ too and think the film will be great.
