Quote:
Ender's Game is an American science fiction action film based on the novel of the same name by Orson Scott Card. Directed and written by Gavin Hood, the film stars Asa Butterfield as Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, an unusually gifted child who is sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future alien invasion. The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin, and Harrison Ford.

The film was first released in Germany October 24 followed by the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 25. It is scheduled to be released in the United States, Canada and India on November 1 and many other countries from October 30 throughout mid-January of 2014.

Surprisingly acceptable. The book is better, of course.

My original plan was to re-read the book before I saw this... but I don't want to be reminded of how much I love the book only to be disppointed by the movie. So I'll wait until after.

Absolutely terrible. The theatre only had about 15 people in it and I'm glad because by the end it was embarrassing to even be watching the film.

I have not read the book. I really liked the movie. I thought it was well acted and the effects were good. I wouldn't say it's a "great" movie, but it was definitely worth seeing on the big screen, and is a movie I would probably want to own when it comes out on Blu Ray. I have a feeling having not read the book really skewed my opinion to the positive.

Harrison Ford Interview

Watch while he;

a) Bores you to death with his monotonic voice and tedious explanation of a teen movie
b) Doesn't answer the interviewers' questions
c) Doesn't want to be there
d) Ignores the quite obvious Star Wars-related question

Jesus, this man has got boring as fuck in his old age.

But where's the Ben Kingsley interview?? That's the one I want to see. :funny:

Some of my colleagues put theirs up online. If you're interested I can dig one up maybe.

Please do so!

Remember, I am in China, so no YouTube videos if possible (if that's all you can get, it's also ok but I will not be able to watch it for a few days).

Thanks Lecter

Proxies generally do not work (the URL you just posted is also blocked here). I used to use them but they're pretty useless now. The only way is to use a VPN, which I do not have an account for, so I have to wait until the weekdays. No big deal, but if you can provide a link to, say, a vimeo video instead, that would be cool.

Don't spend too much time looking, just post a link to the video and I will make sure I watch it eventually. I just really want to see Kingsley acting like a cunt.

It can be taken two ways. I'm rolling my eyes at the implied notion, not the initial claim (as I've never read Ender's Game). If nothing else was implied, then forget my eyeroll.

I thought it was pretty great, and the last battle sequence caught me off-guard and elevated the film for me. Before it was close to ending, I was already hoping for any future sequel or sequels to be made.

Everyone involved portrayed their characters well. Asa Butterfield is one of the most-talented teens in the business right now. A-

A bit silly in instances, but overall better than I expected. Some of the dialogues were more thought-provoking than I expected (though I expected just a silly science fiction movie for pre-teens).

Ender's Game is brilliant, a masterpiece.

It's a wonder movies like this get made at all these days, but then, a well orchestrated media campaign subtly spread it's cloud of venomous anti-hype, which is then parroted here by the usual suspects who have grown so accustomed to movie pablum in recent decades that they spit up when they taste real ideas anymore.

The message of this film strikes dangerously close to the heart of the real mission of the transnational military industrial complex. Discrediting it with the young and simple minded maintains a fresh stock of eager cannon fodder for the latest front.

Ender's Game is more than it's message though, it's a cracking good sci-fi movie! It's prescient exploration of the future of gaming is alone worth the price of admission.

Gavin Hood has crafted a glorious film adaptation worthy of it's source material - - bring on Speaker For The Dead !!!

At least you didn't claim that Ender was a good actor. That would have been too hilarious.

For anyone who wants to reflect further on the themes of the movie, here is a thought provoking essay on the novel.
