Yeah, no way. I love 127 Hours... but he had one singular moment of "clarity" towards the end. Otherwise, it was mainly just insanity.

Post Re: Gravity
I wonder how this would play if they had not crowded nearly every minute of it with dialogue. Dialogue I consider very flawed and inauthentic sounding, but this is beside the point. It would be interesting to see a quote-unquote colder version which truly zeroes in on the physicality of the situation. I don't mean 25 minutes of them floating silently to the music of Arvo Pärt, but rather only including dialogue which is directly pertinent to the content of the scene. No this-is-my-tale-of-woe monologues. No repetitive, "Audience members/Houston, we are doing such and such because of such and such. I repeat, we are doing such and such because of such and such to achieve...such and such."

Going for the real-time intensity while also trying to serve the audience outsize portions of conventional character development and exposition is a failed gambit here.

...for you. I feel like you are phrasing these arguments and issues with the film as if they are extremely common complaints about it, which they are not.

No, I am not. I am addressing my issues with the film.

What you and a few others are doing is far worse and more insidious, hiding behind the fact Gravity is the flash-in-the-pan Movie of the Moment, a place in the sun which is almost always fleeting, and acting as if this renders it beyond reproach (and voids any criticism).

Anyone else laugh when she got stuck in the seaweed at the end? After the ordeal she went through, it would have been something to have had the seaweed ruin it for her.

During that whole ending scene, my friend leaned over to me and whispered "If this bitch drowns after all that..."

Visually Stunning but the characters and story is a bit lacking.

10/10 out for visuals

but I do not think this a film for everyone will enjoy.

Personally I think its great but compared to another Space Movie Apollo 13 its nowhere as good.

Was anyone else really impressed by the movie's soundtrack? I've been listening to it today and think this was a highlight after the visuals.

This part of the soundtrack was especially gripping, the debris scenes:

I almost loved it. The 3D was breathtaking and easily by far and away the best I've ever seen, it was spectacular. The visuals are great too as is the epic score. But one thing held me back from totally falling in love with this and that was Sandra Bullock. She gave a fine performance, not questioning that, but she just couldn't draw me in on an emotional level. With someone like Cotillard this would have been one of the best movies I've ever seen, I'm sure.

I also was expecting state of the art 3D, but oddly enough I didn't think the 3D was up to par with the two most recent IMAX 3D films I've seen (Pacific Rim and Metallica Into The Never). The 3D seemed to show "gaps" because of the extreme changes in perspective.

Post Re: Gravity
Usually, when watching a movie with good 3D I'm only impressed in the beginning and get used to it rather fast. But during Gravity, I was stunned by it the entire time. I've seen it in IMAX and it was just one hell of an experience. All the praise it gets for it's 3D, visuals, etc. is well deserved. No idea how this film can work at home.

Btw, I haven't seen Pacific Rim or Metallica in theaters but I can't imagine how they could use 3D better than Gravity.

Haven't seen Metallica, but Gravity's 3D is infinitely better than Pacific Rim's.

It's one of those Life of Pi/Hugo/Avatar 3D-type of films. Milestone.

I still believe Hugo features the best use of 3-D in the modern era, but Gravity is certainly high on the list, too.

Hugo is great, but I think once we are in that aforementioned Avatar/Hugo/LoP area, it is hard to tell, which is better. I suppose Hugo's achievement is that it is the least "on the nose" use of 3D out of those and it still looks amazing.

The content of Hugo sets it a hair apart and above, in my opinion. The locations, at times cavernous and at times claustrophobic and winding, are such fun to experience in 3-D, more interesting than just the Vast Ocean or Vast Space.

Warner Bros. could not convince people to regard it as a must-see-in-3-D movie the way they did with Gravity, but The Great Gatsby is another film this year to feature top-flight 3-D.

I loved this and I think Gun is (almost) completely wrong. :P I have heard so much about the visuals and I had sky high expectations for them, but they surpassed my wildest of expectations. They were so beautiful and I actually felt like I was there. It was a crazy and great experience. The 3-D was also breathtaking and was a breath of fresh air after seeing so many movies not use the format correctly. Just beautiful.

I loved Sandra Bullock in the role. In fact, I would go as far as saying it was her best performance to date and if she happened to win at the Oscars this year, I wouldn't be disappointed. She carried the entire film on her shoulders and was marvelous. To the people saying they weren't connected to the characters, I don't get it. I was connected to both of them and actually got teary eyed a couple of different times. Sure it was some of the dialogue was kind of corny (though I was expecting worse, especially her last monologue that Gun posted earlier in the thread) but it was to be expected after all.

All in all, it was one beautiful roller coaster of a movie. I can't recommend it enough and am so happy for all of the success it has found. I may even see it in IMAX again. It was that good.

On another note, I actually just bought a 3-D television yesterday. I couldn't have made the purchase at a better time. I simply cannot wait to own this on 3-D blu-ray. It is going to look glorious.

10/10
