Super 8 and Star Trek were WAY better than the three Star Wars prequels.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Super 8's end credits were much better than the rest of the film.
Star Trek is not even close to the action of the prequels, as rough as some as some of the acting and characters has been. Though I thought the action in MI3 was very good. This whole project is going to be under a microscope from every kind of fan. It will be interesting as more news comes out.

(And just so we're clear: Super 8 is half of a good movie, half a very blah one; and Revenge of the Sith is better than anything Abrams' name is on that isn't Star Trek.)

JJ in his sleep makes better movies than Lucas.

Lucas sucks, I'm glad there's a new director, but I have no kind words to say of JJ.

I think him taking 30 years off hurt his skill as a director and he just lost touch with how to make movies. I really wish he had just written the prequels and let someone else direct like he did with ESB and ROTJ.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
JJ's two original films have been just ok. He's excelled in franchises that aren't his, and I think that could be his biggest asset here.
I don't think he really lost his touch, he really just went for the kids with the Prequels. I never met a young kid that didn't love the prequels. The one thing that I'm excited about is perhaps a less kid friendly SW that is more in line with ESB (Hopefully anyway).

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Super 8 is fantastic. And he didn't direct Cloverfield, or even write it.
Lucas using the "I did it for the kids!" excuse has been always been malarkey. Young kids like EVERYTHING, you don't need to pander to them at all.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I'm talking about Regarding Henry, plus there's plenty of adults that enjoyed the prequels. I do, They aren't brilliant, but I'll take them over the majority of other sci fi films.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Some parts of the prequels are fun like Darth Maul duel, the arena in AOTC, and large portions of ROTS. The biggest problem besides Jar Jar was the whole romance in the prequels. Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen had no chemistry and the dialog was god awful.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Back to Star Wars 7 - I think how big it will be will depend on how big an impact did Darth Vader have on audiences wanting to see the originals (and also the prequels as it was his story after all). Darth is probably the most renowned villain in cinematic history.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Yeah Darth Vader drive the Star Wars really...
I think these films will do quite well nonetheless if they connect to the past storyline.
If they go in a all new direction, I think the first film will not be quite big.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I think JJ Abrams is a good choice one that many will like. His record has been very good with franchises revival and it will be interesting to see how different he will make both SW and ST lookwise.
Are there any news on casting?

Didn't want to start a new topic, but if the info below is true, that would be epic!! DANIEL DAY LEWIS may have been approached to join SW Episode 7!!! He was lunching with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy recently. http://news.yahoo.com/star-wars-vii-dan ... 40262.html

That's what they need, adding the old favorites, with actual solid actors is the right way to go. Bill The Butcher with lightsabers, oh my.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
So for the last couple of weeks the STAR WARS YouTube site has released previews of all six movies every Wednesday - can we expect a major announcement next Wednesday?
