I'm not ratings savvy... Is Joey's numbers considered good or bad?

Overnights: 12.1/18, Viewers: 16.70 million, A18-49: 7.4/21

They're awful when you realize Joey can barely pull in half the audience a repeat of Friends could. Standing alone, they're not terrible, just average.

I recently heard that NBC is currently in 4th place in the ratings, which sounded wrong to me. Does anybody know what the network ratings are?

Hmm looks like The Office did better than the shows that came on before it, including Joey. If it retains that for the next couple weeks I bet it gets picked up as a regular series.

Wow... that is quite sucky in comparison. I wonder if NBC will dump it? I can't imagine that it is a cheap show to produce, and with mediocre ratings it seems like it wouldn't be cost effective.

Joeys a bomb in the UK to be honest; it started out super, super strong as in amazingly strong. But totally plummeted; its now got less than 40% of the audience who tuned in for the first showing.

Anyway pretty good start for The Office

I say keeping Joey is a good idea still, though. They need to rebuild their comedy line-up, so cancelling it would leave Will and Grace and Scrubs again as the most probable comedies, unless The Office does really well on Tuesdays.

Do you mean 9 eastern time? If so that's even better for the Office that it held up that well against American Idol. The Office came on NBC 9:30 eastern

American Idol was on from 9.00-9.30 last night.

I think The Office goes to it's regular slot next week which is Tuesday's at 9.30pm. Meaning it will be up against House and The Amazing Race and to a much lesser extent Rodney. Not exactly NCAA Basketball, Life on a Stick and Jake In Progress. Not to mention it won't have the help of a strong lead in like The Apprentice, as Scrubs will be in the 9.00 hour. It will take a tumble in the ratings, but if it can stay in the 7-8 range NBC will probably be happy.

That's probably true. I'd make a horrible TV executive... unless 7 nights of NFL Football, followed by a nightly lingerie show sounds like a good idea.

More than i expected for Life on a stick, but must be because of american idol!

I saw The Office yesterday! and wow, its the most annoying show ever, of course you get some good laughs here and there, but i didnt like it !

I napped through ER and The Office...

The problem with Joey to me, is that the character is nothing like how he started out on Friends. If you see old Friends episodes, the character of Joey was moderately intelligent, low key, even subtle sometimes. But over the years they wrote him into more and more of a stereotype of food/sex italian-american male. And they went to even more extreme along that line with the series Joey. If they went back to the way the part was written in the first season of Friends, then I think Joey would be a fun show, it was a lot more of an interesting character.

I think this is the nerdiest post I've ever written, but what the hell.

I think JOEY is pretty entertaining actually. I'd give it a B. I loved the episode that Christina Ricci guest starred on that aired the week CURSED hit theaters. It was really funny. Christina was excellent on it. That was the best episode of it I've seen yet. It's better than The O.C. anyway. I'm glad they picked it up for a second season. It doesn't deserve to have its ratings compared to that of FRIENDS. If they did it would have been dumped a long time ago since it didn't do nearly as great as FRIENDS did. Compared to other comedies on the network it's doing just fine. Don't compare the ratings to those of FRIENDS though. It can stand on its own.

I still watch Joey. It's mildly entertaining, but never really funny, and never incredibly interesting. I think I mostly watch it for Dre DeMateo's boobs.

But, I think the problem with Joey is that he was always intended to be a secondary character. He is funny when mixed in with a bunch of other characters and the focus isn't on him (like with Friends). As a main character with complete focus on him, his dumbness is amplified and he is less likeable.

And, for the record, I have never written a post that is not nerdy.

I haven't checked the season-t0-date ratings closely for the past month, but I'll tell you how I thought the season seemed to be going.

Last time I checked CBS was obviously way in the lead. I think it was the point when ABC passed NBC and FOX was 4th.
However for the past 5 weeks ABC's biggest shows (Housewives and LOST) have been in repeats while FOX has been gaining big (still in fourth I think) while NBC is very slowly sinking.

If LOST and Desperate housewives return with at least as great ratings with which they left off, then it will be battling FOX probably for the #2 spot while NBC might just slip outside the top 3. Don't take my word for it, but that's what I gathered.

Yep, NBC is 4th. Conan did a whole segment on it last night. It was hilarious. 4TH.

The Office is great, and did great. I am gonna be pissed as hell if they dump it in some garbage time slot. This could be a seinfeld type hit if done right. Then again, they based it off a BBC episode, so if their origional episodes suck then I will quickly tune out. Moving its time slot is ridiculiously stupid .. I honestly wonder who the morons that run networks are. Why if you have a great new show and give it a decent lead in ... would you want to change its time ... what if people liked it and say oh ill tune in again next week. Then it's not there. This is the kind of thing that killed Family Guy.

Give it a solid time slot with a good lead in, and LEAVE IT BE. This could be NBC's best comedy in their entire lineup ... people obviously are not 'feeling' joey, it shouldn't even get picked up for season 2. They need something for thursdays ... LEAVE IT DAM IT.

I agree! I think the reason Joey's taken so long to find its feet is because it focused too much on Joey (who, like Archie said, became more of a charicature than a character in later seasons of Friends) early on. It's not that there's anything wrong with the supporting cast, it's just that they just never seem to have anything to do. Recent episodes (especially the stellar Joey and The Late show episode) seem to be getting the mix about right, so hopefully NBC will give it a chance to grow some more before shunting it off entirely.

The show's at its best when Jennifer Coolidge is on screen. Her line delivery turns mediocre dialogue into pure comedy gold!
