The post-credits scene is only in the extended home-video cut, I believe.

It reportedly shows the Horsemen going to a museum in Las Vegas and finding crates with the symbol of the Eye emblazoned on the side.

How the fuck did this have such great legs??? Shows how starved for non sequels auds are.

I do like the cast and overall it's generally fun, but its just silly. Far too much CGI and the twist was unnecessary.

Grade : B-

Yeah, they're on a museum and Henley ask the mentalist for the eye key and he didn't have it, lol.

quite unnecessary

What? This is easily in Louis Leterrier's top 5 films of all time.

The twist was a twist for the simple sake of having a twist. It is almost like the writers wrote themelves into a corner and said, "Hey, uh, detective is in on it. See, he is really the focus of the story, so lets, uh, have him be the [insert dumb magic dues ex machina]. Audiences will think we are clever since this choice makes no sense but maybe at a deeper level it does make sense."

"Yea bro. $$$."

Both, actually.

The notion that this has a "twist just to have a twist" is insane. It's a magic movie. Of course it's going to have a twist. Do you not know what "magic" is? Have you never watched a movie before?

It was really, really dumb, but I was never bored with it. As cheap, throwaway entertainment, it's not half-bad.

B/B-

I almost feel like being nice in regards to the twist at the end, if only because it seems like there are zero pretensions surrounding it. Everyone involved appears to get that the screenwriters pulled it out of their asses.

It is a heist movie with magic as a backdrop. If the film wanted to use magic to explain the tricks. Fine. I could have lived with that. The problem is magic has nothing to do with the twist. The twist is simply out of left field and doesn't make any sense. Why does Mark Ruffalo need to work for the LVPD or FBI or whatever he works for in order for his plan to work out? Answer: He doesn't. His character is a lie (an purposeless lie) for the entire film and in the last 3 minutes he completely changes for no reason. Oh yea. He also imprison's an innocent man.

It would be like Walter White, in the finale, announcing that he has been controlled by aliens for the past couple of years. Then saying "well I do live in New Mexico, home of Roswell." Point is that would be bullshit and unearned.

Wowwww what an awful ending. The movie was at least entertaining up until that point. Reminded me of empty fun flicks like National Treasure. Except if Sean Bean was really a good guy all throughout the movie, and was only pretending to be an antagonist to fulfill a ridiculous revenge fantasy.

Now You See Me

Despite seemingly being set in the real world, Now You See Me was content with pasting over plotholes and impossibilities to concentrate on the greater goal of misdirection in the form of a twist ending that was already achieved (and to a higher quality and respect for its audience) many times in films like The Prestige.

Now You See Me should have better spent its time creating likely methods and cunning escapism than producing a 2 hour movie with an abundance of flashy American cockiness and flamboyance. The surprise ending wasn't so much of a surprise in that it was more of an eye-rolling groan at the lack of originality on display. Awfully filmed fight and chase sequences twinned with a sense that the film is smarter than its audience made Now You See Me a generic and anti-climactic experience.

Props to the notion of misdirection being so bluntly played out; we feel we're following the out-of-ideas cop but instead we're in the drivers' seat with the master craftsman all along. However, this plot is met with a lifetime of implausibilities that I just cannot suspend my disbelief enough to aimlessly accept.

The film is so obsessed with pushing its 'the more you look, the less you'll see' bigheadedness down our throats that it forgot to spend time on the art of crafting an intelligent caper. Instead it seems they made the film with a 'they won't remember' gloss that, I'm sure, fooled man an average-Joe moviegoer into believing they've found the new Inception.

I've never seen a movie so far up its own ass. Sucking its own dick all the way to the end, it's the film equivalent of a 16-year old rich kid school boy with all the latest clothes and gadgets being immensely proud of themselves for getting a 'C' on a beginners algebra test.

The more I think about it, the more I hate this movie. It had some nice visuals, and some cool ideas (none of them explained), and the acting was just fine, but it was very unimpressive overall.

So, it was like totally genius to frame Morgan Freeman's character by filling his car with stolen cash...like, totally filling it so it would be obvious he stole the cash and making it impossible for him to drive away.

Like, there is no way he would be able to explain his way out of this b/c everyone knows if you're genius enough to steal millions in such an evil mastermind way, the first thing you're going to do is like totally fill your car with bills, bills, bills so you can show the world how rich you are now.

And do prisons still look like that--like straight up out of The Green Mile?

Like, this was totally one of the many ridiculous, errr, genius things about this movie.

Found this on IMDB. So very true. Another stupid thing about the movie.

I can't stop laughing at this quote.

Of the film's numerous flaws, the one which lingers in my mind the most is how undeserving Morgan Freeman's character is of the life destroying revenge plot to which he is subjected. Even within the film's fractured logic.

Little boy loses his father. Blames the negro that caused his father to push his stunts further and further.

Totally logical. ;)

You can't look at this through your sensible, detached, objective eyes.

Despite it's enjoyable ensemble, the film is just too ridiculous and filled with plot holes that it is hard to be fully entertained by this.

I will say this film shows that Melanie Laurent needs to do more American films.

Post Re: Now You See Me
I watched this already on it's release 3 years ago and remember that it was fairly enjoyable. And just watched NYSM2 last week, which I found pretty hate-able, and with my gf not having seen the original I decided to pop it back it in.

The film starts of very well, I remember liking this from the start and Eisenberg is much more appealing in this than in the sequel too. Also Isla Fisher is really good in her role, fits much better in the group than Kaplan (who I actually found a highlight in NYSM2). Now watching this a second time, like how it usually is, I paid more attention to little things, details in the story, and it does make it worse. For a film that has crazy magic tricks, they're explained several times and it makes sense. But whenever a trick is not explained we're just expected to believe they had a clever way to do that as well.

One example where this comes up for me is, how did they get the suck-it card in Bradley's pocket. By the end, what I found most annoying is Ruffalo's turn, it seems to make so very, very little sense in any way, can't wrap my head around that. And there's more plot points like that, they are as hard to explain as that of every average blockbuster.
It's the kind of film that can be entertaining, when just sitting back and letting the show happen. But in analysis of the story though, it only makes little sense and it can become frustrating to watch.

It's still a lot better than it's sequel because of a nice chemistry between the leads, good story build-up and simply a more toned use of magic.
