Re: Top-ten lists of the 1970s
Imho, I think you should leave the retro annual top ten lists to Algren. First, it's something positive and productive he is contributing to KJ, rather than his more common lame trolling for attention. Second, he initiated the idea. He also was * spacing it out a bit as an ongoing activity, rather than squeezing a whole decade into a thread. Much more discussion gets generated in a single year thread. Jamming a the whole 70's into one thread like this to snipe the topic away from Algren is both rather rude and unproductive. Third, you've created your share of great threads - - I especially like all your music list threads in recent months. Don't be afraid to share the wealth. ( * I see now that he is rushing to create them all at once after you slipped your 1981 list into his 1980 thread. This is why KJ can't have nice things. )

Re: Top-ten lists of the 1970s
As someone who lived through the 70s, I actually saw a lot of these in the theater...
Like the other lists, this is my list of my favorite films -- the ones I can watch over and over -- and not necessarily the "best" (if you can see the distinction). I didn't list ten if they didn't meet my standard for "favorite"
1970 M*A*S*H Catch 22 Brewster McCloud Start the Revolution Without Me
1971 Clockwork Orange And Now For Something Completely Different Bananas Harold and Maude Diamonds are Forever
1972 The Godfather Cabaret Slaughterhouse 5 What's Up Doc Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex Sleuth 1776
1973 The Sting Sleeper American Graffiti Live and Let Die
1974 Godfather II Young Frankenstein Chinatown Blazing Saddles The Front Page Murder on the Orient Express
1975 Monty Python and the Holy Grail The Rocky Horror Picture Show Love and Death One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Nashville The Return of the Pink Panther
1976 All the President's Men Network Silver Streak Murder by Death
1977 Star Wars Annie Hall Close Encounters of the Third Kind Allegro non Troppo The Spy Who Loved Me
1978 Superman Heaven Can Wait Revenge of the Pink Panther Animal House La Cage Aux Folles Invasion of the Body Snatchers
1979 Life of Brian Apocalypse Now Manhattan Being There The Muppet Movie All That Jazz The Jerk Dracula

As for the claim individual threads for each year results in more conversation, perhaps. If so, my bad.

Re: Top-ten lists of the 1970s
A few too many empty positions to compile a Top 10 for each year (at least that I'm willing to include).
1. The Rocky Horror Picture Show 2. The Exorcist 3. A Clockwork Orange 4. Jaws 5. Robin Hood 6. Hausu 7. Grease 8. Halloween 9. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 10. Young Frankenstein
Others favorites: Pippi in the South Seas, The Black Stallion, Pete's Dragon, Cabaret, Treasure Island, Alien, Star Wars, Carrie, Willy Wonka, Kramer vs. Kramer, The Vampire Lovers, Dracula, Smokey and the Bandit, The Rescuers, Rocky, Jabberwocky, Jesus Christ Superstar.
And I feel like I have an obvious omission...

If you haven't, Corpse, you should see Picnic at Hanging Rock and Harold and Maude. I believe you would highly enjoy both.

The poster for 'Harold and Maude' looks strikingly familiar. I wonder if I've actually seen part of it once several years ago. I'm definitely going to check it out.
