Re: Denzel Washington turned down Fast & Furious 7
He took the role or he's being targeted for it?
I hope he doesn't take it. He should be in The Expendables 3 really, not this shit franchise.

Re: Denzel Washington turned down Fast & Furious 7
Russell rejected the offer for thr first Expendables.
He is not locked down for F&F7, but he is close to it.

I'd love to know his reasons.

Actually, I was taken aback when asked to put the request in a letter and send it to his agent. Subsequently, I was called back by the agent several days later after refusing to send a letter and he said Kurt Russell is not interested in ‘ensemble acting’ at this time. So, people, I came, I saw, I failed”.

Never seen that quote.
If it's true, then it's pretty fucking hilarious. FF7 is also an 'ensemble', but the 'acting' part is questionable.

I love Kurt Russell, but if it's true then he doesn't deserve to be in it.

Re: Denzel Washington turned down Fast & Furious 7
There must be a reason why, since Grindhouse/Death Proof, Russell hasn't been in a single widely released film...

Re: Denzel Washington turned down Fast & Furious 7
I think he wants to concentrate on serious, mature, adult films. Until 2013, when he needed more money, so he agrees to any old shit. If Sly asked him this year, I expect he would have said "yes".

Re: Denzel Washington turned down Fast & Furious 7
Kurt Russell will not impact the perception of the Fast/Furious franchise in any significant way. He is a nonentity to many of the more youthful fans (his last action hit was seventeen years ago), and in general, he simply does not have the draw/star power of Denzel Washington nor the cultural significance and visibility of an Arnold Schwarzenegger type. Honestly, at this point, I am not sure casting Russell means much more than casting, say, Gary Sinise would.

But many people wanted to see him in The Expendables franchise because he's an 80s action/physical actor and belongs there. But this Fast role may be his Pulp Fiction, but I doubt it very much. Lin is no Tarantino when creating characters.

Re: Denzel Washington turned down Fast & Furious 7
The widely reported story was quoted as being blown out of proportion at the time. Kurt said he didn't even know about he project at later interviews. The agent didn't sent the letter along, and that was the agent's official response. He has since gotten different representation, I think in 11. I believe he was up for the Eric Roberts role at the time, which was a good move even if the earlier report is true. It would have been a complete throwaway role for him. I'd much rather him in a Mickey Rourke kind of role.
I'm excited to see Kurt again. He's starring in a horror/western and a comedy out in the next year too.

Re: Denzel Washington turned down Fast & Furious 7
So an agent ruined it all.

I'm excited to see Kurt again. He's starring in a horror/western and a comedy out in the next year too. I think he was up for Bruce Willis' part. I had read that too, and there was another interview that said Stallone offered him the Roberts role, which he turned down, then offered the Willis part, but thought it was too small. But then I heard the other interview which makes a little more sense. I mean the epic meeting of Stallone/ Willis/ and Schwartzie would not pack the same punch of Stallone/Willis/Russell. And that's not a jab at Russell, I love him, but I think that scene was always intended as such. Stallone has been known for being over exaggerated twitterer too. Goes for shock value over actual truth.
