So what is the answer and how will it ever stop? Especially with the top people like Rev Al continuing to talk about the need for Justice for Trayvon. Which to me is sending the wrong message to both the black people and all others.

There's no excuse for discrimination, yet it exists everywhere. It's human nature to have a greater affinity toward those similar to you (in race, country of origin, all the way down to favorite color). Because of this, there will always be some level of discrimination in our world, it's just not going away, it will exist in our subconscious forever.

Black and White. Urban and Rural. Rich and Poor.

Racism as a construct in the United States, is built from slavery, and the damage wrought by the practice. When the world was a much bigger place, exposure to a new race generally meant war. As the world grows smaller and the melting pot boils, race will continue it's general decline toward hair color in terms of importance. We are a young species, and we exist in a transitional time.

The difference between the stereotypical white and black male in the United States really has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with economic status. Your grandparents generation cared about race, your generation really doesn't. But people are naturally afraid of violence, death, theft, and so on. Slavery and the discriminatory practices that followed held black america down and have left your average white man with a bigger net worth and better education than his black counterpart.

How do you fix it? You go to the source. Racism is no longer tolerated, black is no different from white. However there's a huge educational disparity between urban and rural which needs addressed. I think black america is currently in the midst of a big cultural shift, but there's still too many absent fathers, too little emphasis placed on education at home, too much violence. When rich and poor no longer equates to black and white, your problem can truly be resolved. Until then, the effects of slavery linger.

But looking at your paragraph, you simplify this to black race and slavery, as now there are a lot of races/colors in the middle that are behind and not being treated as fairly as they should or could be. Lets just start with the illegal immigrants over the last 20 years and how about women. Taking me for example, being a white guy in my 30s, I am not getting the benefits of being white that others from 20, 30, 50, 100 years ago got. Since both my parents worked I was a latch key kid from like the 3rd grade or so on, I lost out on many things if my mother was a stay at home mother. So with the hardships that we all are facing today, truthfully we should all forget about the past, and start moving forward. Especially with the current generations going to school and getting on with an education, better home lives and an overall solidarity. Sorry but unless you have a solution for an unlimited amount of money, education is the best that we can work on so the people have a chance to build a better foundation for them and their families to have a better future.

I simplified a lot in my post, it's a very complex subject, but one that's moving in the right direction and will continue to do so.

OK. Understood. But I will just say, that if Justice for Trayvon continues, it is counter-productive by Rev Al and the NAACP, hurting their own people, rather than focusing on better ideas and moving forward to build for the future.

I apologize about this rant before you read it, I mean no offense and my choice of words isn't modest I admit. I am a little drunk and someone used an argument in this thread that I hate and find ironically racist in of itself:

The whole the argument that black people cannot be racist because they are the oppressed race is such bullshit and a cop out, an argument made when someone brings up irrefutable evidence of a non-white being racist to a white person because they can't handle being wrong. Sometimes, YOU'RE WRONG. It amazes me how much all people despite their ideological affiliation cannot admit their fallibility, especially when it gets to an institutional level ala a university.

It happens with Glenn Beck supporters and hard left-wingers alike. Don't twist definitions. If you are taught not to be prejudice on race, don't give the other race a free pass card. It does not solve anything, clearly, and only strengthens the problem.

You can't just expect one race to fold up and submit to other races just because of their historical predisposition. That just helps breed more racism. If you want to fight it, like I do, you have to hold all accountable.

In fact those who argue that blacks and non-whites should not be held accountable for racism are being racist themselves. It's like saying, oh, we elven whites with our moral superiority should be held accountable for our moral actions, but those lesser non-white races are morally retarded. They cannot understand our moral comprehension skills and we shouldn't scold them for their lack of moral actions because they don't know any better. Oh, what's that brown person? You agree with the racist white people. No, you don't know what you're talking about, I the superior minded white person know what you REALLY wanted to say because I'm right and your wrong.

Watching the news, I like how some people have been complaining about this stuff since a 10 year old Mexican kid sand God Bless America. As Marc Anthony sang the National Anthem at the All Star Game, and also some complained that announcements were made in English and Spanish. Some complained that the National Anthem should be sung by Americans only, and announcements should be in English only. (Guess people thought Marc Anthony was Mexican while he is an American born in Puerto Rico.)
