This sums up my feelings very well. I did not expect it to like it nearly as much as I did.

I think I'm gonna take back my statement of this film never getting towards anything brilliant 'cause the 1-2-3 punch of the 'look at my shit' scene, the gun BJ scene and the Everytime sequence has to be one of my favorite stretch of scenes in a movie this year.

Well, then it doesn't sum up my feelings as well anymore. But I do agree on the Everytime sequence.

The bedroom scene with the gun is my favorite in the film. It is such a fascinating, tense, and strangely sexy moment: the way the girls flip the power dynamic and reduce him to next to nothing, and then the way it seems to only intensify his interest in them rather than anger him.

Perhaps you may want to rethink your vacation plans.

Anyway, just watched it and holy fuck was it awesome. I absolutely loved the hypnotic, dreamy style. Very cool film. The "Everytime" scene was great. Could be one of my favorite movie scenes of the year.

Spring Breakers

Overall it's a fantastic film. Some elements are absolutely terrific and right up my alley. Other things; not ideal. The film has amazing music, and it's constant throughout the film. James Franco is sensational as the druggie, whiteboi gangsta...so believeable. The girls are hot, and there's a lot of nudity. The story is a simple one (which is probably why it's only a 90min film) and it's shot very well. The film is giving more credit to its subject than it deserves, but I didn't mind so much because its beautiful cinematography provides such a rich, euphoric experience. I imagine in a cinema, it would flat-out rock.

The first 40 minutes until Franco are in it are good, but it gets better after that point. The first 30 minutes is basically scenes of constant partying. I got a little annoyed that whenever something bad happened, it was deemed ok because, well, you know...SPRING BREAK, WOOOO! Got a bit tiresome. The ending is also a bit unrealistic how 2 girls can take out an army of niggas and come away unscathed. But again, it didn't bother me too much because the scene just takes you with it so much, it wouldn't benefit me to stop and complain about that because the whole ending is so hypnotic and engrossing (as is most of the film). I adored the repetitive voice over dialogue from Franco and the girls. Especially the "spring break" from Franco, which must have been said about 15 times in total, and the phone call home to Mom from Gomez, which was a complete lie. Awesome stuff.

I was a little bit disappointed that despite two of the girls writing messages like "I want penis" and "Springbreak Bitch" and then licking a drawn penis...none of them actually had sex or even gave a blowjob. That would have been awesome to see. Especially from Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens (the two girls that were the hottest and felt mature enough to give a good time). I suppose what's missing is a more important subject matter than just 'some girls need to kill people in order to know that it's wrong and they should really be knuckling down in school instead of wanting to partaaaaaay'.

Just looked it up and no wonder I loved the music; it's by Cliff Martinez. For me, he's the best film composer out there. The work he did on Drive, Only God Forgives and Spring Breakers is simply fantastic. In this, he works a dreamy score into popular party tracks, and with a sense of Orbital-style beats throughout...so beautiful. Not to mention that he was also a Red Hot Chili Pepper. I love the guy.

I look forward to seeing Contagion more than ever now. And I've been wanting to see Arbitrage and The Company You Keep since they came out too.
