 Re: Production Budgets
Oh yeah. These days the standard budget for blockbuster movies is $200m so this is in line with those. Just that $25m extra is not a small amount even against $200m IMO.

The original Superman in 1978 had a budget of 55m at the time (which was easily the biggest budgeted film of all time at the time. though Cleopatra was bigger adjusted), which adjusts to around 200m with inflation. Major difference between 1978 and 2013: Back than even a budget of half of $55m was very rare, while a $200m budget today is quite common...

 Re: Production Budgets
Let's give it the benefit of the doubt and say it's $190m, that's pretty high, and I suspect that's pre-re-shoots. The $200m+ figure is after re-shoots. Either way, with a projected opening of $60m domestically, it looks poised to make its money back overall and it will not disappoint.

 Re: Production Budgets
$190m for WWZ is on the higher end though that was expected after the new or re-shoots. If $150m was the original budget then that is still on the high end for WWZ.

 Re: Production Budgets
That budget for Heat is great it should get even ($43m) in a week and earn some more.
The budge for WHD is in line but by the looks of it I thought $100m would have been enough for it. Anyways its going to be difficult for it to make much more than $350m WW.

Both overpaid. We shouldn't be rewarding people for eating beyond excess. As for Bullock, she's good, but not $10m good. Around $5m would be fine. The film will be a success, but not because of Bullock. Yanks like watching fat people make an arse of themselves. It makes them feel better about there-fat-selves.

 Re: Production Budgets
Regarding MONSTERS UNIVERSITY
None of the trade papers plus LAT have reported a Budget for MU...
However if you look at the last 3 Pixar movies:
BRAVE: $185m Budget with 93min ($1.99m per Minute) CARS 2: $200m Budget with 106min ($1.89m per Minute) TOY STORY 3: $200m Budget with 103min ($1.94m per Minute)
Since MU is 104min long, it's fair to assume that the Budget is somewhere between $196.56m ($1.89m per Minute) and $206.96m ($1.99m per Minute).
In short: Another $200m Budget looks very likely...

 Re: Production Budgets
I read it at some site(s) about Pixar claiming that they made MU in lesser amount than Brave. Here is one of the links mentioning the same. http://www.usdailyvoice.com/pixar-retai ... arney.htmlSo the budget could be under $185m but given their history I don't think that's true and they might have spent about $200m for it.

 Re: Production Budgets
I could believe a budget under $200 million or even $185 million, but even Cars 2 cost $200 million. I enjoyed the film, but it looked visually cheaper than most of their other films. Only the camp scene impressed me as far as visuals are concerned.

$200M should be the standard Pixar budget. These movies are guaranteed worldwide hits.

 Re: Production Budgets
I don't get it. How is Descpiable Me 2 $125 million cheaper than Pixar's films. Of course, their animation is better, but sure as hell not $125 million better.

I just can't believe The Lone Ranger cost $250M. Where does that place it on the list of all-time highest production budgets?

You have to factor in advertising costs in the total budget then multiply by 2 to get a (very) rough breakeven point. Just say DM2 had a $70m marketing budget. That's about $150m in total costs (again, very crude measure due to distribution costs/tie ins/etc). DM2 would need to gross $300m in WW grosses to start making a profit at the boxoffice. Theatrical grosses however comprise just a fraction of the total take which is why it may surprise you that John Carter, while a money loser, will come close to making its money back.

I believe Cleopatra remains the most expensive. The 3 Hobbit/LOTR movies are certain up there. Waterworld adjusted for inflation is higher...

 Re: Production Budgets
For 250 million dollars, I am almost surprised they did not hire a more widely known actor with real draw to play the Lone Ranger.
