Epic did REALLY underwhelming numbers overseas.

Yep coupled by its domestic release the numbers in OS are also underwhelming. I almost feel like Fox dropped the ball on this one but then I did see a lot of previews at my theater before its release date so I am assuming same would be the case everywhere.

Monsters U starts rolling out this weekend, as far as I'm concerned, it's being released in Latinamerica, and Asia; wonder know if it'll act as Toy Story 3 or Brave OS

Despicable 2 did a strong 2m in previews here last weekend. It rolls out wide this weekend head to head with Monsters Uni.

Looks like they will do IMAX a week earlier. Here it had previews on 400 screens.

I've seen Despicable Me 2 and the film will make some crazy good money.

Hmm, probably not. But $900 million, yes. Then again, who knows?

It will just be this major major crowd pleaser.

I expect at least $300m domestically so it needs to increase 140 % at the most internationally to reach $1b - IM3 increased by 158 % internationally - so it doesn't sound that ridiculous...

While I think there is a good chance for DM2 to get $1b but IM3 has Avengers effect to boost its gross.

Over here in Germany it looks like MU will open on the same Level as BRAVE and way down on MI...

Europe (except the UK and maybe Spain???) is not a pixar territory anymore, shits like the Ice Age films perform much better there

Based on 52% of markets its a good number though it could have done better.

They should have released MU much earlier. Monsters Inc was very successful, but it didn't start a series, which is a serious problem nowadays. The overseas gross of the original Monsters Inc was higher than Toy Story 2's, but after more than a decade the Toy Story series kept (or even increased) its popularity, while Monsters Inc somehow fell into oblivion.
I'm pretty sure this is acting more like an original movie, and then Up is probably the best comparison.

Illumination Entertainment’s and Universal’s 3D sequel Despicable Me 2 opened #1 in five of its 6 new territories this weekend for an early cumulative total of $28M through Friday from the UK-Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, French-speaking Switzerland, and Sweden. The weekend estimate is for an early total of $48.6M through Sunday. As a comparison in the same seven territories, DM2 is performing well ahead of the original Despicable Me as well as DreamWorks sequels Kung Fu Panda 2 and Madagascar 2 and 3. Gru and his manic minions open in North America in limited release Tuesday night and go wide on Wednesday before the Fourth Of July holiday. Expectations are for new records in the 38 territories with the U.S./Canada opening next weekend. Here’s a territory by territory breakdown:

UK & Ireland - Opened #1 with big $3.5M at 542 dates and 49% market share. This is 3x bigger than the opening day of Despicable Me. The total including last week’s previews is $11M (£7.2M). If estimates continue in the same patterns, DM2 will break the record as Universal’s biggest opening weekend with previews in that market.

France - Opened #1 on Wednesday and has grossed a high $3.6M at 799 dates. It has 40% market share and is more than twice as big as Despicable Me.

Belgium – Opened #1 and has grossed $731kKat 71 dates including previews. This is 65% ahead of Despicable Me.

Netherlands – Opened #1 and has grossed bigger than expected $1.4M at 131 dates and 81% ahead of original..

French-Speaking Switzerland – Opened #1 and has grossed $395K at 43 dates with previews, which is 89% ahead of Despicable Me.

Sweden – Opened #2 behind Man Of Steel and has grossed a big $914K at 140 dates with previews. It is 89% ahead of Despicable Me.

Australia - DM2 opened last weekend and is holding strong at #2 behind Man Of Steel’s opening. The cume Down Under is now $10M.
