The film is very funny going joke after joke essentially the whole time. There are some scenes in particular that will be enjoyable to watch again but the film may be one of those where I feel it won't have near as much charm in a second watching. The main cast is good but the small supporting roles are just as good. Emma Watson is funny in her small role but the best small supporting character is Michael Cera. He is just a riot with each of his lines and their delivery. There are also some other surprising cameos which got a huge reaction from the crowd tonight (this was a college-age only screening) and they bring quite a bit of laughs.

It'll be interesting to see how audiences will react to this in the long-run when it comes out.

THIS IS THE END

Saw it at a screening tonight. It wasn't full but who cares it seemed like the audience ate it up. It's screening again in June and I'm gonna watch it again and one more time. I loved this film. It's entertaining and funny. The jokes are crude but the cast just works. I love the basic plot and story to it. I always liked Jay Baruchel in his roles even Sorcerer's Apprentice. He's like the heart of this film. Maybe Craig Robinson is too. The film had a lot more "gotcha" jumps that I expected and did Not see coming. It had a bit of a parody in the middle but I think it still worked. The banter was funny there too. I just appreciate a comedy that's funny and I'm normally not a huge Rogen fan with ever single one of his films having marijuana in it, but it didn't bug me here. He made a good film.

Grade - A

Just came back from an early screening, it was pretty funny/amusing, laughs throughout the whole movie. Definitely think more could've been done but it's a fun flick. Pretty much all of the main guys are enjoyable. McBride's asshole thing works for the most part here. Kinda wish they didn't leak the Pinapple Express 2 trailer thingy early but it was still funny.
Spoiler: show
Channing Tatum's cameo was hilarious

My only regret about it is that they've shown too much of the first half in trailers and clips a;ready released. Luckily the second half is balls-out insane and hilarious and oddly touching. This is the funniest movie I've seen since 21 Jump Street.

I quite enjoyed the first half, even if it's a little slow, but everything in the last 40 minutes or so is gold.

Saw this for the second time at another free screening, it holds up well. Still stick to my initial reaction in that it could've definitely been better but there's enough laughs in the film to consider it a success.

I felt I had already seen the half the movie. Way too many teasers, trailers and clips. Still really enjoyed the movie. It doesn't go five minutes without a good laugh. All of the cast are great. Just not the all time comedy classic I was hoping for. And more Emma Watson please!

I feel like this is going to have terrible legs. I enjoyed it, but there are way too many inside jokes that I think a lot of general audiences will just be scratching their heads.

I laughed a good big, and enjoyed it overall. It's definitely below Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express, and other collaborations of these guys, but it's overall very successful at what it tried to do. The persona each of the characters portray succeed to varying degrees. McBride as a major dick and Jonah as super nice were hilarious and played to their strengths. Franco was funny too. Rogen and Robinson were good but kind of just themselves, so I found them underutilized. Jay was a nice contrast and made the story move, but he did get annoying very early on. Michael Cera was hilarious. Good use of music and just enough jumping moments, and cliche disaster movie "what to do" moments make it a serviceable entry in the genre. Not sure it will have that much of a lasting impression on me though.

B+

Spoiler: show
My favorite bit was Franco and McBride arguing over jerking off, and Jonah playing with the gun.

Also, they had all these great cameos, but outside of Cera no one else gets a proper death. Paul Rudd and Kevin Hart just ran away, and Segal, Rihanna, and Mindy lamely fall in the hole, and if you blink you miss them. I think they should have spent a quick moment doing something better with them.

This isn't quite the next comedy classic, but it's admittedly very funny. I liked all of the actors gamely poking fun at their images and the joke-to-laugh ratio is pretty high. B+

I liked it but wish it would have had a bigger budget with more scope. Roaming around L.A. as sort of a John Carpenter apocalypse buddy comedy. Sort of that way during Danny McBride's final scene. It is very small and could almost be adapted as a play though would not work due to the central conceit (actors playing themselves) being impossible as a play.

Funny though extremely repetitive. The Michael Cera and Channing Tatum appearances were the best.

Awesome and hilarious.

A-

EDIT... some of my favorite things:
-the whole cast playing themselves or exagerated versions of themselves
-Jonah Hill saying the exact line from Rosemary's Baby during his demon love-time
-Rogen / Franco's exchange while hiding in the close from Jonah
-every Craig Robinson scream
-how the apocalypse itself was pretty serious/scary in the movie, the story involved just the reactions
-the great cameo toward the end of the film w/ McBride
-the choir soundtrack singing "titty f---" during Jonah's chase
-the sheer amount of Apatow friends
-Franco's almost redemption
-EMMA WATSON
-the fact it was Anne / Egg in the bathroom with Michael Cera
-the fact that James Franco actually did paint all of this painting in his house

McBride was the only negative I'd give the movie. I like his role, but his presence is a lot to take.

I also really liked how all of Franco's bizarre story ideas for Pineapple Express 2 happened here.

Very, very funny. Loved the actors poking fun at their images and some sequences are gut-bustingly hilarious. I think in terms of the summer comedies I've seen thus far The Heat was better, but this is still definitely worth seeing. B+

Not really though, Franco makes valid points, McBride jizzing like that makes no sense, but I agree funniest shit I've seen in a while. That's why I wish they just had more fun with the genre, if they did a whole film like that, it could have been epic.

I highly enjoyed it. I am not sure how well it holds together as a "motion picture," but at least 85 percent of the comic set pieces connect, the cast know how to create a certain energetic and playful magic together, etc. And similar to Pineapple Express, it is laced with a bit of extreme, absurd violence alongside the more expected toilet humor and one-liners, which I dig.

I enjoyed This Is The End, though I didn't love it.

Nice to see the boys riffing on their personas and the apocalyptic setting added nicely to the range of gags, but it just never kicked into high gear.

6 out of 5.

Post Re: This Is the End
This is the most hilarious movie I've seen in months. Given the concept, there was always a chance that This Is the End would be too self-satisfying to work for anyone other than the people making it. However, the final product that is not hampered by its meta nature, but rather takes it and sprints with it. The cast members have tremendous chemistry with one another (no surprise there), and each one milks his perceived cinematic persona for all it's worth. This concept works better than writing the film with original characters because it relies so much upon audience members' knowledge of their prior roles that it can glide through the setup and get to the meat of the story without credibility issues emerging (that said, I wonder how well the movie would play for someone who isn't very familiar with the movies that get referenced here). Save for three cameos (the Michael Cera and Emma Watson ones that have figured prominently into the advertising, and another one late in the film that thankfully wasn't given away in advance), there's no one comedic set piece that really stands out; while that would be a point of negativity for other comedies, it speaks to this particular film's ability to stay consistently funny from scene to scene, even though it runs at least 10 minutes too long. For viewers who have enjoyed the past efforts of the stars involved, it's worth the price of admission.

Very disappointing. Two or three funny scenes and loads of unfunny parts or cut-rate jokes - so it is a typical american comedy after all. The last twenty minutes are incredibly dull.
C--- (or 6---/10), just thanks to the Emma Watson cameo.
