If only it had been connected to a renewed commitment on the part of Clark to conceal his true identity, it would have meant something. As it stands, it makes a mockery of all that is Superman.

I really don't want to seem like I am attacking folks, but...Crowe and Shannon plays one dimensional characters who were genetically modified to fullfill one purpose. I mean...the only damn way you can possibly say they're both "atrocious" is if went into the film with your own preconceived notion of how things should have gone.

And to be honest, this is about as interesting and exciting as Superman can REALLY get, imo. He is a mild mannered mid westerner, the opposite of Tony Stark. If you do not like how they handled or approached him here, than you really just don't like him on film.

Cavill's only issue is at times he is way too handsome to be taken seriously. My friend was like "this is kind of like if they had cast Pamela Anderson to play Catwoman in BATMAN RETURNS". Though Cavill acts everything quite well.

The thing is, that won't work. The films only issue is the 2nd half doesn't really elaborate on the themes the first half really begins. It feels unfinished. That's about it. That said, the 2nd half requires plenty of thought.

But "stupidness and dumbness"....?

Are some of you all retarded? Zod is going to destroy planet Earth all together. I am sure Superman is sorry that a few skyscrappers in Metropolis got demolished in his quest to save THE REMAINING 99.999999999999% OF THE FUCKING PLANET, but that's what it too to save it.

"Wouldn't you be afraid of Superman?". Um, no. He just saved our planet from an Alien invasion. I would be no more afraid of him than I would be of the Avengers...

One good scene in the whole movie: Lois and Jor-El's team-up and escape from the ship. Contains the only laugh in this thing

Absolutely. With a vengeance. And there is nothing about those two terms even remotely contradictory, so...weird comment

I think a better comparator for Cavill would be Megan Fox, for their similar acting abilities.

I really liked this scene as well. My favorite part other than the Costner/Lane scenes.

Yes.

Hey, Excel -- Superman has destroyed the laser/Kraken thingy. Zod has no interest in Metropolis. Why doesn't Superman take the fight to space?

Speaking of the kraken snake ship security system squid thing---I'm assuming Zack Snyder had completed but leftover Sucker Punch shots he wanted to put to good use?

Yes.

He does...(Wayne Satellite, iirc)...

I thought it was quite convenient how they kept going to metropolis, though.

One of the best things about JJ Abrams amazing original script (which this borrowed VERY heavily from) was how the fights between Superman and Ty-Zor (basically Zod) would go from one location to another in seconds. I.e. fighting in Paris, then the Sahara, then the Arctic, then Africa, then outer space, etc - all over the course like 2 minutes total. Flying at crazy speeds.

MAN OF STEEL is a poor version of that script, though it still rocks. STEELS problem is so many of the themes are never fully developed. The presence alone of said themes makes it >>> most other comic book films, but it cant touch TDK or TDKR without fully realizing them.

"I'm not sure the people of Earth can be trusted' = expect that to go somewhere...it never does, outside of the whole 'military trusting him' thing.

It looked like something out of Mass Effect.

Well I went with extremely low expectations after what happened over past week. But I must say it was just mediocre. Screenplay and dialogues were bad and I hated snyder direction I wish there were lighter moments in the film. Fundamental problem is I could not emotionally attach to Clark kent/Kal/Superman and action got monotonous. Snyder's only strength is to direct the action scenes. But I guess studio directive was to ensure there was enough action after SR but this was just stupid.

Hopefully the next one will be more emotionally rewarding. But that requires someone besides Goyer to write the script and hoping its not zack who will direct.

I would rate this C.

Worse than the church scene? Papa's death is supposed to have "dramatic heft", but that church bit was more awkward than a 100 Nokia Lumia product placements.

I really wanted to love this movie, but it fell short of my expectations in the story telling area. I'm glad it was action packed but I would have preferred a more linear script vs the flash backs, I think that would have given the story a little more heart and a reason to root for him. Also what was the purpose of even doing the Clark Kent glasses scene at the end of the movie? Surely his face is well known now and Lois can't be the only one to see past them?
