The alien-world designs almost evoke The Chronicles of Riddick.

He's so bad, I feel like it had to be a conscious decision.

Seriously, this film is a mess. I'd call it disaster porn, but I'm pretty sure Roland Emmerich films are more joyous than this.

:hahaha:

What?

Have you ever met a mild mannered mid westerner/

Some need some perspective, Cavill was 100x better than Reeve ever was.

Fantastic! It's just an amazing film from start to finish. The first hour is great because it puts the whole backstory together in a way where it could all be communicated clearly without annoying filler. You got strong character development from just these little moments and the development for Lois and Clark gets better as the film progresses. The film doesn't follow the usual superhero storyline and just sticks with the events at hand without getting sidetracked with other BS. The entire cast is aces. The action though, that was what I wanted from a Superman movie. The action staying as fast as Superman's speed was a joy to watch and I was so giddy during that last hour of pure fighting.

Definitely one of the best superhero films made.

Yup, I feel like everyone who is disliking it MUST - like, HAD TO - have gone with their own personal take on the film and are just upset that it isn't quite what they wanted. That isn't the fanboy in me either, I really mean that. Because it is a fucking awesome film.

The folks getting upset wans't some super charismatic guy are the ones who do not understand the character.

This film is pretty AWESOME, as in every film people tend to find flaws :yummy: , but GOD, this is a well made Superman film, I don't see how any other director might have done a better job, hands down to Snyder, Goyer and Nolan

Romance is there, the script is well crafted and action scenes are pretty boss!

Though I still don't get how Crowe did not get his name at the top of the end credits, he is actually the most important character there.

People clapped, and left the theater with big smiles. Fuck haters, fuck critics, I guess I've never been that mad, well maybe with the unfair Speed Racer reviews

This is how every dreamer fan has imagined a Superman film

The greatest superhero of all time is back and came to take his throne

Long Live The Man of Steel

A+

Can't wait to see the sequel and how he adapts in Metropolis!!!!

The score in Superman is better than in Man of Steel. Although I kind of liked the score in this film. It had sort of had a Tangerine Dream meets traditional orchestra vibe--realize it is getting panned in most places.

However, point taken.

If DC/Warner give us a film like SR We complain how slow superman is and the lack of action; and now, they give us an action packed superman movie and we complain it's only about fights?? WTF???

:zonks: Hard to believe how people never get satisfied :zonks:

Post Re: Man of Steel
Seeing it the 2nd time, some real final thoughts.

1. It is def. ahead of Batman Begins on my list. Everything pre Smallville battle is just perfection. Krpypton is just awesome. The way the 'alien on Earth stuff', all the flashbacks, everything relating to Jonathan's death and its effect on Clark, Lois, etc- is just so good. Clark talking to the priest was great, the entire "YOU ARE NOT ALONE" scene is pure movie magic. The army talk. The build up to the alien arrival. It is A LOT of exposition at once, but it works very very well.

2. Cavill fucking kills it. Obviously playing a mild mannered mid westerner isn't an overly showy, charismatic role ala Tony Stark. But Cavill really, really nails it here. There is a lone he says to Lois as Zod's ship approaches int he dessert. It's just "GO Lois..." and it's just so good. Such a blend of nervousness, confidence, sincerity, etc....Cavill is really good.

3. Amy Adams carries the film. As others have noted, Crowe, Cavill, Coster, etc all play non flashy roles. Adams injects such personality into her role that she totally owns it. I would say she gives the strongest female lead performance in a superhero film I have ever seen. Hatheway killed it in TDKR but wasn't a lead.

4. I can see where some criticism is. Some of themes initiated in the beginning just seem unresolved at the end. All the "ideal to strive towards", "hope", etc - it never really pans out the way you would expect. There is no "Superman guilts Miss Techmacher/kitty koslowski into saving him" ala the past films. They SAY he is a symbol of hope but we never see it. We know the military understands him and that theme is done well, but that's it. Much of the lessons Jor-el explains are talked about more than shown.

I'm so disappointed that I really wanted to cry after it was over :( And what makes it worse is that there are fantastic moments present. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner's scenes are fantastic. I loved both of them so much and every moment with them was perfection. They were easily my favorite characters and they would be on my best performances of the year list for sure. Amy Adams was also great and the best Lois Lane I've seen thus far. Loved her energy and the fact that her character had so much to do with the climax. Also, the score was AMAZING. Hans Zimmer has outdone himself. I truly believe he deserves an Oscar for his work here. The rest was so, so bad. Henry Cavill does his best as the titular superhero but is let down by a horrible script - I hope he gets more to do in the sequel. Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe are both atrocious. I couldn't believe how bad Crowe was in particular. I hated how this movie completed disregarded the mythology and any kind of history the character had. It was also so poorly directed and obvious in its symbolism. That church scene was actually painful. I fucking hate Zack Snyder because 100% of the movie's problems are his fault. The last 45 minutes are a poorly directed and cluttered mess. It tries so hard to be like the climax of Dark Knight Rises and fails miserably because there are NO emotional stakes. I didn't care about any character involved. Add into that the numerous plot holes and poor editing jobs (the cut from the interrogation room to the desert is the worst) and this is just such a crushing disappointment. It had the potential to be SO GOOD but I completely blame this hack Snyder and the screenwriter for fucking it up. I hope to god Nolan produces the sequel and comes to his senses and fires these two.

Also, the product placement is disgusting. It's so obvious and poorly handled.

I'm so down :( This was supposed to be this franchise's The Dark Knight or at least something similar. And it had the ingredients to be so. But it's completely let down by incompetent filmmaking skills.

And before anyone gets at me for my low(-ish) rating (it should probably be lower), let me just say that Chris Nolan is one of my favorite directors, I LOVE the first two movies and Returns and am a fan of almost all the actors. This should have been SO much better you guys. No getting around it. C+/C

Eh, not really. Sure the advertising was fantastic but this feels more like an origin film like Begins. The last 2 minutes really sets up potential for the next one and to be more in line w/ the Superman everyone associates with.

Dang!! The sheer range of reactions this has here is mind-boggling given the general love and like for the people involved in it. Seems like everyone has different issues with the film, too. With the exception of Costner and Lane, everyone in this film has been bashed here yet praised there for their performances.

I don't see the film till tomorrow or the day after, but I don't even know what to expect anymore.

BJs Grade:

A/A- (might lower or raise with a 2nd viewing, not sure yet)

The amount of stupid in this film is through the roof, but the amount of good is out of this world. Overall its my third favorite origin story behind BB and Iron Man, but it handily pimp smacks both spider-man films and is on par with Batman 89. Watching this film I could see why one would have problems with much of the story, but it worked for me, I was able to forgive the stupid. I really liked the way the story progressed, it was different and for me even enjoyable. Snyder is once again the master of action, but as expected not at all good with bringing life the his characters, luckily the cast picks up the slack with ease. Acting was above average across the board. I particularly liked Adams, Shannon, Costner, Crowe, Lane, and Fishburne. Cavill was passable, I must admit I prefer him to Reeve and Routh, even though his acting was weaker, I bought into him being Superman much more so than the other two. Adams is straight up the best Lois lane ever and Shannon OWNs Zod. The editing in this film is a total botch job, hopefully there is a more fluid directors cut on Blu-Ray. Overall I very much enjoyed this film and plan on watching again soon.

BTW it's hilarious how bad the Fandango synopsis is. I can't find it on the website but on the app: "Young reporter Clark Kent roams the world covering news stories but returns home to face his destiny - to become Superman." Like wtf

This is a great quote I found at BO forums, which summarizes MOS glorious moment:

Quote:
The critics went in to expect another BB and they got a loud Snyder action-orgasm and instead of doing their job to look at the film on it's own decided to to compare MoS to Super 1-2 and BB. In that regards it fails big time, but if Marvel and FF6 gets a pass for their tons of stupidness and dumbness, why can't DC? Oh well, who cares about critics when the BO and WoM is on fire
.

So you're saying the take away from this is - - Man Of Steel consists of 'tons of stupidness and dumbness' and should get a 'pass' for it - - is that correct?

That is actually what critics, haters, disappointed moviegoers and you think of it, for that reason he assumes that DC should take an advantage of it.

But it does not matter what I tell you, I'm sure you will keep taking words out of context
