 Arguing
How often do you argue (not on WOKJ) with family/friends about society issues? Politics? Religion? Etc... Do heated issues always seem to come up at parties/family functions?
It seems almost daily for me. It seems as if 95% of my family are Republicans, and it's really frustrating sometimes.

I get paid to argue. So it's daily for me.

 Re: Arguing
I mean, I enjoy arguing. Hell, I'll argue someone that agrees with me if they're being an idiot about it.

 Re: Arguing
Is there any friend/family member that you can't stand? Like... you're still friends/family with them, but only because you have to be?
I have two uncles (through marriage) that I can't stand. Both have me blocked on Facebook, along with one of my aunts.

 Re: Arguing
Never. Religion and politics are off limits in family/friend reunions. Everyone has different opinions and no oone is going to win the argument, so why bother and fight over nothing.

 Re: Arguing
Not that often. I'm not nearly as argumentative in real life as I am on here. Mostly because I don't surround myself with racist, misogynist creeps like Algren, lol.
My family all largely share my political beliefs as well, so...

 Re: Arguing
I argued with my brother about Cabin in the Woods this weekend. And about Superman vs. other superheroes.

 Re: Arguing
People have very firm beliefs on religion and politics, and those arguments can get very heated and end up in a fist fight. Thats why we prefer the other things you mention, i argue all the time with my girlfriend over cats/dogs or sushi/Italian

 Re: Arguing
I do argue with one of my friends about movies all the time. He has weirdly strong opinions on random topics, though.

 Re: Arguing
Oh I also argue with that same friend about country music like EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE HIM (i.e. he constantly bashes it and I'm obsessed with it). It's getting pretty tiring.

He's right. Because country music is awful.

 Re: Arguing
Seldom. There are conversations about and dissections of issues but hardly ever is there a heated argument. People have told me that I seem very calm. Perhaps that is one reason. Another may be that I welcome a good counter-argument, instead of fighting it with emotional outbursts. Then again, I seldom meet or talk to idiots of the redneck variety.

 Re: Arguing
Not to often, probably monthly, I can keep my kewl and discuss but I can get snappy if comments get personal.

 Re: Arguing
If you guys are posting on this Board, most of the time you are arguing. So shut up about not arguing every day. And I don't want to argue about that.

 Re: Arguing
All the time. Society issues? Politics? Religion? Actually these are good "icebreaker" topics because they are not personal issues to my family.

 Re: Arguing
I love a good, friendly argument. I even like to take positions that I personally disagree with just to see if the other side has actually thought about what it is they are espousing or just to annoy them.
Love to argue politics, movies, books, history, gossip (both celebrity and family/friends), child-rearing, traffic, food, and just about anything. Even things I know little about, I can come up with an argument just to annoy someone else and get a dialogue going.
Usually my brother is someone that is good to argue with because I can take just about any position and he will not be offended and even if he gets pissed, we can always end it with a "fuck you, let's go grab a some dinner" and be done with it.

I used to get into arguments with my Dad that could literally go on for six hours straight.

 Re: Arguing
I avoid politics and religion, people just go crazy debating such opinions and can actually make people dislike you. Usually I avoid any very controversial topics and just talk about politics in general.
For example I debated Abortion with a long time friend and he is till my friend but I feel strange to be friends with a person with such old outdated beliefs.
Even so me and my friends are mostly centrist minded people who are a bit cynical so rarely does politics come up.

 Re: Arguing
I debate politics and religion with anyone. if they don't like my views, they can fuck off. If they respect my views, then I'll respect their crazy ass beliefs.
I don't argue with many people apart from family and colleagues. Family arguments get pretty heated and it can end in a bad way, but colleague debates just end with either side saying "ok, so we disagree", because neither side (me especially) do not really care about the others' views despite trying to convey our own views for about 15-30 minutes.
