They went crazy when Diesel and Rock teamed up to fight Shaw and that big guy and then that nasty uppercut from the Rock had the whole theatre erupt into applause. It was so EPIC . I was hoping the mid air catch would get more of a reaction, but people seemed to laugh it off just because of how ridiculous it was. I can't really blame them because it was really fucking ridiculous, but stuff like that is why these movies are so much fun.Absolutely. The catch and the uppercut scene are my two favorites from the movie. Pure awesomenes.

There's no way a fun action movie like this needs to run 130 minutes long - - this would have made a far better 100 minute movie.

I was bored out of my mind.
I did not see it, though.

Everyone keeps freaking out about how ridiculous and out of control (in a good way) this movie is. Maybe I should see it?

Magnus wrote: The length is perfectly fine. It's 130min of mostly pure rush. It slows down only for a few minutes here and there just so you can catch your breath.
The sequences keep building up and up and up and just when you think you see the climatic sequence, they come at you with an even bigger one. It perfectly manages to mix up several stages of actions all at the same time. The speed and thrill of the sequences are perfectly executed that the sense of space and time is always kept in balance because you're too busy racing through everything to stop to check.
And it has ridiculous pay-off one-liners (YOU PICKED THE WRONG TEAM BITCH) and money shots (the shot of Disiel and the Rock standing together is just the definition of awesome).
And it does all of this without heavy use of CGI (or obvious CGI). Yes, the laws of physics are broken but it still doesn't seem fake. In the Fast & Furious universe, all of it makes sense and feels real.
My only regret is that I didn't see this at Thursday night with a packed crowd. Would have been even better. Could not have said it any better myself. I love how resourceful and creative Lin is. I like how the action scenes/set pieces are constantly built up and what's really cool about Fast 5 and this is just when you think they can't possibly top the first BIG action sequence they kick you on your ass and prove you wrong. For example, the flip car chase through London could have easily been the finale to hundreds of other action movies, but nope it's just a taste of the awesomeness that will come later on. From there it continues to get crazier and crazier until that plane scene and just when you think it's all over they throw that ridiculously EPIC credits scene at you and your jaw drops. Now, I might have hyped it up a bit, but seriously we need more big budget action films like this and less like G.I. Joe Retaliation or Die Hard 5. Of course I'm sure Algren will disagree.

That hurt Magnus. It still doesn't make your point any less absurd.
And at least it had a good amount of street racing in it. This movie has what, one good scene of it?

 Re: Fast & Furious 6
Magnus wrote: The first one pretty much perfected the underground street race. So it really doesn't. I'm taking about racing of any kind. Or cars moving at a fast speed. Fast Five at least had a chase through the streets Rio in the middle of the night, as dumb as it was. Though I forgot about the first scene. Technically there's a race happening there. Magnus wrote: Jmart wrote: Magnus wrote: And it does all of this without heavy use of CGI (or obvious CGI). Yes, the laws of physics are broken but it still doesn't seem fake. In the Fast & Furious universe, all of it makes sense and feels real. This, I still find baffling though. It's a fucking movie. Just because its not plausible doesn't make it fake if the film makes you believe in it. If you think films need to strictly follow the laws of reality than you pretty much can't enjoy 99.9% of action movies. I could mostly care less about the laws of reality or plausibility. My problem is more to do with the "without heavy use of CGI (or obvious CGI)." That leap was beyond stupid, not because it wasn't plausible, but because it looked fucking stupid. Oh there goes CGI Dom and CGI Letty. Am I supposed to care? I saw the film with my cousin and he said the first thing it reminded him of was when James Bond surfed that giant wave in Die Another Day. That's not good. That's poor company to be in with. And the ending with the plane? The plane itself I'll admit looked good, it's just that everything else surrounding it looked atrocious. The ending however I couldn't believe in at all. Almost everything outside of the plane was done against a green screen. The fight inside the plane almost makes up for it, but how am I supposed to feel any real tension about what's going on outside of the plane when almost none of it is real? That bit with the jeep and the wire was well done, but not much else. Maybe it's because I saw it in RPX?

You guys have simply lost any interest in story structure in movies at all - - you've become consumers of Bulk Action Media™ (BAM). If producers want to offer you 180 mins of quality BAM, you'll gulp it down. If a new type of theatrical movie format is introduced with continuous action sequences available to devour by the hour, you'll be first in line. It's like the difference between... I don't mean to judge you - - frankly, I'm just glad to finally understand the death of the story in modern movies.

 Re: Fast & Furious 6
Fast & Furious 6 can be best described as follows: never let the laws of physics get in the way of good vehicular mayhem. As with Fast Five, director Justin Lin and crew have nailed down a solid, appealing formula that keeps the proceedings light and enjoyable through most of the film. The cast members still have strong rapport with one another, which helps to build some pathos, provide some comic relief, and fill in the gaps left by spotty character development. And, of course, the action sequences are nuts. While I'll freely admit that I probably wouldn't let a more intelligently crafted movie get away with the stupidity and disconnection from reality evident in the car chases, it's a decision that works well for the franchise because the whole thing is so preposterous and over-the-top that something like a tank bursting from a larger vehicle or a car bursting from a crashing plane feel right at home - and spectacular to watch. The filmmakers also place the future of the series in an interesting direction with a killer stinger about thirty seconds after the fade-out. This is outlandish, mindless entertainment done well.
B
And since we're ranking 'em:
1. Fast Five (B/B+) 2. The Fast and the Furious (B) 3. Fast & Furious 6 (B) 4. Fast & Furious (C/C-) 5. 2 Fast 2 Furious (D+)
Haven't seen Tokyo Drift.

 Re: Fast & Furious 6
The four action sequences are incredible. It drags too much though, and never hits the heights of Fast Five because of it (which also dragged, but not as much). Could have easily cut Paul Walker's time in prison and the movie would have flowed much better. Still, it delivered what it promised and what I wanted. B+
