Post Tornado in Oklahoma
An EF4 (winds of 166 to 200 mph) twister hit Moore, Oklahoma (a suburb of Oklahoma City) today. The death toll, unfortunately, is 51 and climbing.

The pictures are just crazy.

Tornadoes are insane. The super high winds and giant hail before and after them can do enough damage by themselves. The atmosphere outside is always so eerie when one's supposed to hit. Can't feel worse for these people who lost family/friends over the weekend!

Tornadoes are more violent than hurricanes, but do less wide spread damage.

Post Re: Tornado in Oklahoma
It was just 2 miles south of my parents home so they were spared but in the bathroom as I was relaying texts as to where the tornado was while listening to it on a radio stream. That tornado just tore up right through essentially the growing part of Moore where the Warren Theatre is, a local hospital, bowling alley and then you have shops being built all around there. I was just at that 7-11 that got flattened last Thursday for Star Trek for heavens sake. Anyway, it's just crazy but it is tornado alley that we live and everytime this happens it's never easy or any less shocking as to the devastation. This is a bit more disheartening because of the children who weren't able to make it at the school. As for me, I was at work way on the north side of the city when this was going down.

Why doesn't any other country get tornados? or at least we never hear about it..

I'd have loved a sequel to Twister.

The death toll has been revised down to 24 which is at least some good news.

I am once again astounded by the heroism and bravery of average people in the face of severe adversity watching the news coverage of this.

And unless I missed it somewhere on that page, the United States accounts for 75% of the world's tornado reports each year (according to CNN).

And that's fair enough, but I'm still interested to know how victims of a natural disaster are brave heroes. I don't think they asked for/wanted it to come.

I must have. I also must have missed the level of threat at those precise times, because that's what determines the bravery of a person. I doubt we'll ever truly know either.

Well there's a TORNADO. So... It's probably a pretty high threat level.

Yeah, true. So everyone in that state was a hero just because the tornado was in the same state as them. Sure, Chip, sure. Screw the details, just hail them a hero!
