 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
Yes, you can just tell Gatsby is connecting. The cast and the literary prestige always assured a healthy turnout among older audiences, but the advertising and the music has also turned it into an event among teens and college students. And it is a good counter to Iron Man 3.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
True whoever is going to see Iron Man on the 2nd weekend is not the target audience for GG and vice versa.
Meaning GG can open to 40 million and not have an effect and Iron Man can get a 70 million 2nd weekend and no real effect.
If this was lets say last year with TA 100 million 2nd weekend, then it would have been a problem.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
I disagree. IM3 is a 4 quad blockbuster. Gatsby will have young and old audience(plus men/women) So there is definite overlap. Something will happen here. Either Gatsby will impact IM3 or vice-versa. I see Gatsby benefiting from mother's day for sure. So should IM3.
May be Gatsby will have less than expected OD because of Im3.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
I really hope Gatsby surprises. All signs are pointing to a breakout but I could also see this disappointing if it's not good. I wonder how it would've opened during Christmas.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
My mind keeps going back to Iron Man 2's second weekend: you had three openers combing for $56m including Robin Hood's $36m. Gatsby has 3D and a lot more hype going for it, and is targeting an audience that I feel has less overlap with IM3 than Robin Hood/IM2 did.

May be Gatsby will have less than expected OD because of Im3. IM3 isn't Avengers or the Dark Knight, it won't get as many of casual viewers who don't go. I think they both can coexist. And it isn't like 30-40 million is that huge.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
Iron Man 3 2nd weekend will likely do quite okay as its Saturday gross will be augmented by family audiences.

IM3: $82m Gatsby: $48m Peeples: $16m
This will be the weekend when 2013 starts to kick 2012's ass; I don't expect any more than 2 other weekends this summer to be down YOY.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
Iron Man 3 - $74 million
The Great Gatsby - $34.7 million Peeples - $18.5 million
If the openers break out enough, and IM3 holds well enough, this weekend might be able to at least match last year, which will bode well for the following two weekends (Which are a LOT more stacked than last year) and May as a whole. SUMMERRRRRRRRRR.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
I'll also predict a 56% drop for Iron Man 3,
between the drops of Avengers (50%) and Iron Man 2 (almost 60%).

Gatsby 40 million IM3: 75 million
I think Gatsby and IM3 can co exist.
This weekend will be when more families go out to watch IM3.

 Re: May 10-12 Predictions
For GG, they are smart and know they have to do everything to draw in people opening weekend and allowing it make a respectable gross.
They realized its not going to be those films that has a leggy run.
