OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

I got to watch this at a screening in 3D and I was quite happy with the 3D viewing. The colors were still quite bright. I thought Franco was very good in his role and Williams too. Kunis and Weisz's roles were a bit lacking. Even the change wasn't as dramatic as it could have been. I liked the supporting performances of the monkey and the china doll. I was really excited to see this film but as I watched it and when it got to the end something felt a bit empty with me. It was lacking either more wicked witch or just something. It wasn't bad. It was certainly good unfortunately not a A film for me. Though, if they do go on to make another film I would certainly watch it.

Grade - B

Disappointed, I thought it was boring at times with too much dialogue, it lacked of action and the cgi human scenes looked bad animated, just like the ones from spiderman, though the overall film wasn't bad at all.

B-/C+

If he succeeds in conning people, then he's accomplished his goal of being an ... actor.

The kind of overproduced crap that Disney makes every year without any care to the writing, casting, or overall quality whatsoever. A misfire of vast proportions, on the same level as Alice in Woefulland. D

Beautiful to look at it but calling it "uneven" might be an understatement. I enjoyed parts of it though. C+

John Carter was great and The Muppets Again could be a small hit if it's done well

Oz the Great and Powerful

This is solid, fun entertainment, and for people comparing it to Charlie and Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland, well, they clearly shouldn't because this is a wondrous spectacle when those are weird failures. I hated John Carter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland etc., but I really enjoyed myself with Oz. It's also better than Jack the Giant Slayer, which just didn't work as neatly as this.

Humour, great 3D, a charismatic lead and great effects made Oz the favourite out of recently released fairytales. Franco was excellent and very charming, and Finley was hilarious, but the Wicked Witch shouldn't have been sexed up with cleavage and the works. The first third of the movie was brilliant - I adored the b/w (wanted the whole film to be in it, ha), then the entrance to Oz, then the "wizard" fooling them all and Finley's comedic moments. The second third was also good with the broken doll girl, then the meeting of the Good Witch and all that, then the final third wasn't so good with a few problems like the Weisz's witch turning into something out of The Evil Dead - this was not cool from Raimi.

Kunis was so-so, Weisz was kind of odd at first but came into the role as the film went on, and Michelle Williams was perfect from the word 'go'. Nobody acted badly apart from Kunis.

The film took all the turns and journeys of all fairytale and epic spectacles; the man in an out-of-water situation, then he overcomes his fears and triumphs for the nation that adores him. This has been done before, sure, but I still liked it being done again here. The Wicked Witch didn't laugh creepily enough for my liking. She was still pretty much Mila Kunis - with boobs on show, and she needed more of a transformation, not just some green paint. I did, though, like how it tied into The Wizard of Oz; the yellow brick road and the witches' history etc. I loved Oz's tricks in the finale. I suppose the main thing I liked is Oz and his ability to con people into believing in him, and the troubles that stemmed from that - just great to watch. Franco was awesome.

Overall, a magical adventure that kids will absolutely adore, and adults will appreciate for the imagination.

I take the sum, the three in Oz were sexier than the four in The Craft.

This is a surprise because you said it looked shit

And have you watched John Carter?, I remember you said in one recent post ( maybe a month ago) that it looks shit and you don't have any plan to see it

PS: your review sounds like a B+/A-

I've watched John Carter. It was shit.

Oz was a pleasant film, and I did enjoy it, but it wasn't hard enough for my liking. The witches really let it down for me. It's a "B" graded film.

A prequel to THE WIZARD OF OZ wasn't "hard" enough for you?

I wasn't expecting it to be hard either. But it's a kids film. This is why the movie received a "B" when the review sounded like an "A".

I can see where Algren is coming from. Margaret Hamilton's performance in the original is truly frightening: not because she is dropping f bombs and painting the walls with cherry pie, but just because of a genuine sense of malevolence. Mila Kunis post-transformation is just embarrassing.
