Re: What was your moms... (inspired by Soap - the Thread)
Verbal/psychological criticism, didn't come from an ill willed place but had no control over negative reactions and perspectives. Figured out last year my mom/dad/brother are textbook histrionic personality disorder which explained why things were not right for the longest time for reasons I hadn't been able to put my finger on

Re: What was your moms... (inspired by Soap - the Thread)
It would be extremely unusual if your mom and your dad, both unrelated, had a histrionic personality disorder. Not impossible, of course, but it'd be one hell of a coincidence.

Wouldn't it be as likely as 2 natural red heads having a kid, presuming the estimate in the population is similar at a couple percent? If using 2% as an example - and with histrionic's undetected nature, if the real number was 5%+ it shouldn't be a surprise, especially in the internet era though that's not relevant to my parents - a red head or histrionic who ends up having kids, should have about a 1 in 50 chance their partner has it too, no? This is before taking into account if red heads are more likely to partner with red heads, or histrionics are more likely to partner with histrionics

I haven't thought about this for longer than I can recall, by my mom's unusual punishment would be to thump me on the head. Very bizarre in retrospect. Not a bop or a knock, but like when you kick a paper triangle field goal, for lack of a better description. It's more a 'flick' I guess, but she called in a thump.

Re: What was your moms... (inspired by Soap - the Thread)
The rubber or plastic spatula was my moms favorite instrument of torture but she gave two warnings first. The 1st one was picking the spatula from the drawer and putting on the table. The 2nd warning was by slamming the spatula on the counter or table real hard. If the nonsense persisted that spatula will hit your arm and/or your butt. The belt was more of my dads way of punishment but first he had to catch me . I always stupidly cornered myself...

A good ol' slap in the face. And threats of sending me away to boarding school if I didn't get straight A's (in elementary school).

Makes me feel kind of good deep down. Never did much, other than the occasional yell or just that they were disappointed in my actions. I did a lot of good though, and never really ever got caught for anything if I ever did something wrong.

Grounding of the electronic persuasion.
I remember a few times she punished me for things I did a long time beforehand that I had already been punished for previously (we're talking a few years later, in one case). I know she wasn't thoroughly thinking about it, but you're basically teaching your kid that they can't escape their past omissions and that they should live in the shadow of their mistakes... kinda fucked up.

Re: What was your moms... (inspired by Soap - the Thread)
Aside from like, actual physical child abuse from my dad, my mom and grandmother used to spank but they also did the soap in the mouth thing when we cussed. My grandmother used to have us stand in the corner with the soap in our mouths the whole time! It was so awful. When liquid soap was invented it pretty much was the worst thing that's ever happened.

No, not really...
She once destroyed an oil painting she did of me as a baby.
A gesture so overly dramatic and literary that i would have laughed at it if it would have happened in a film.
