 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
This looks like an insane amount of FUN. It's also good to see Bay return to making hard R action films.

 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
Looks really good but the competition around is a little too big.
$30m/$80m (could get to $100m if the WOM is really good)

 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
Looks great and a lot of fun. Will probably end up seeing it with the same gang I saw 300 and the Fast/Furious movies with.

 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
The trailer seems pretty dead-on. And there was a behind-the-scenes pic of the actors with charred severed hands. That's a big piece of the real story.

Doesn't look like a hit at all. Well, not as big as some are thinking it will be. It seems pretty weird, even in the TV spots. Will have to rely on star-power. Though some may be Rock-ed out already after Snitch and G.I. Joe this year. And Wahlberg is certainly no guarantee at the Box Office after Broken City bombed. Plus if it's going to be as dark as The Dark Shape says it will be it might definitely turn some off. Not sure how WOM will be.

 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
I hope the movie bombs http://movies.yahoo.com/news/survivors- ... 12347.htmlI am not a fan of making real life sadistic killers into sympathetic heroes. They killed two innocent people and dismembered their bodies. They are just sick.

 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
The true story behind the movie is just insane. I highly recommend anyone the slightest bit interested read the Miami New Times series of articles that inspired the movie.

 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
If it entertains me, I don't care about the real story. I'll simply forget that it was inspired by this story.

 Re: Pain & Gain predictions
I've also read the original article series - It's a long, but great read.
It's interesting how the the film obviously presents the gang as stupid but somewhat lovable goofballs. In reality they were sadistic sociopaths, who took pleasure in torturing and killing innocent people. At least they got the "stupid" part right, because yeah, they were very stupid.
Also the bag guy of the movie - Trailer presents him as a kind of a big time criminal - was just an ordinary family guy who got kidnapped and tortured by the gang for one month. The torture didn't even serve any purpose, the gang just *enjoyed torturing innocent people for fun*.
One of the biggest violating of source material I've ever seen. And kinda insulting, since this all happened just 15-20 years ago, and the victims of torture and the families of the murdered ones are still alive. No wonder they are pissed off.
If you ignore the real story, the film on its own looks good.
I guess there is some hope, that this will be a satire in the vein of American Psycho. The protagonist see themselves as the good guys, but the audience understands that they are psychos.
This was a little bit worrisome quote:
"The movie also gives some details about at least one killing that happened after Schiller's escape, although it is unclear how that is done. Paramount rejected an AP request to view the film in advance."
...Sounds like the murders are not actually included in the film, and this is merely a story of what happened before the gang started killing people, with *maybe* some kind of details of what was going to happen next. Which is the worst kind of white-washing. Of course the murders should be included.

I don't see it making a 100 million. It opens one week before Iron Man 3 so it will crash and burn in its second weekend.
