I've been saying "I like the way you die, boy" all day long, in a Clint Eastwood voice circa 1971. It's in my head for some reason.

I hated the line, "I'm curious what makes you curious". Delivered badly. Foxx really was the weakest link in Django Unchained. I also think that the hurried production showed.

Pretty much, as the two halves have two different styles and way of presenting the two protagonists. In the first half, Django is going from meek to confident, where as Schultz is clearly in control. In the second half, Django is the badass and Schultz is the pilgrim in an unholy land, as we have gone from Schultz's terrirtory in the world of bounty hunting to Django's territory in the land of slavery.

Waltz is terrific in this film, no doubt. But I am still more stuned by Sam L. Jackson. Waltz is playing Landa all over again, except he's a good guy this time around.

I hope Tarantino can come up with something new for Waltz in his next film and not have him play the charming, well-spoken foreigner again.

Not at all. SLJ usually plays a cool badass, not a stuttering 76-year old. I mean, when did he last play someone above his age and clearly showing it too?

Waltz isn't good because he is playing himself in an outgoing mode.

SLJ is brilliant. The best he has been since well his previous Tarantino films.

That said Waltz is why this film is as good as it is.

I havent seen Waltz in any German films, which would be interesting though.

Was he well known in Germany prior to Basterds? Or was he more obscure?

I didn't know him before, but I know some that did.

He was quite unknown, in Austria - his home country - too, I believe.

I saw this for a second time yesterday and it came really close to A+ territory. The only thing that keeps it away for now is the part between the two Candyland shootings. Everything else worked even better on a second viewing.

I actually bolted for the restroom right after the first Candyland gun fight, but what I saw when I got back - which was at the tail end of when Stephen had Django tied up - was strong.

I gave this an A- the first time, but I have a feeling I might enjoy it just a bit more on a repeat viewing.

Do you guys just enjoy the violence?

If so, you could take a 90-minute restroom break and just come in for the ending. You'd still give the movie an "A".

Of course I only enjoyed the violence. That's totally why I gave an A- to a 165-minute movie that consists largely of dialogue.

If I had to guess, I would say the critique of the segment between the shootouts is that the first one is loud, brutal, and flashy enough that it feels like it should be the climax, making for a jarring switching of gears when it turns out there's still another 25 or so minutes to go. And short of keeping track of time on a watch, one could be forgiven for assuming the first shootout is supposed to be the climax - after all, by the time it happens, the movie has already been playing for over two hours.

I certainly thought it was the end. The final shootout felt tacked on.

Just finished it on Blu .... and loved it! It doesn't top Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs for me, but it is indeed, an enjoyable film.

The entire cast really delivers.

This deserved ensemble over Argo

Yeah, shame on me for not seeing this earlier, but I finally did and damn is it good. It's a great slavery and western epic, made with that special Tarantino sauce. An excellent film with a great cast and great performances. It's quite the sit, but it's well shot and has a great score so it all just makes for a marvelous watch.
