Post "Evil Dead" TV ads too scary?
People have been complaining about the ads for this movie being too scary.

In particular this one:

It isn't a surprise that non-horror fans and people with kids would have a problem with the ads. I'm sure it is scary for kids. Thankfully this will just create buzz for the film.

I remember when I was a kid a TV spot for the killer dog movie Man's Best Friend scared me :funny:. Then I watched it when it came out on video and it was like my favorite movie. I rented it over and over and got the poster from my video store to put on my bedroom wall. :P

Do you guys think the ads cross a line? I don't know how else they'd advertise it. Did anyone here ever find any movie previews scary as a good?

God, this looks so bad. I can't imagine it looking scary to people. The long haired guy's acting is atrocious and the deadite looks like she came off the set of Scary Movie

I could see how the beginning of that second ad would freak some kids out, but I don't think they're too scary. Besides, I haven't seen them much on the networks, and I highly doubt they're airing on many channels aimed at kids.

I bet ads are getting a lot of play during Walking Dead. I've seen them late at night during talk shows too.

Read this over on the Blu-ray.com forum:

Youtube receiving complaints for Evil Dead ad being 'too scary'

You know those ads that play before videos?

Well, the "DONT SKIP IT" tv spot of Evil Dead is one of those ads, which begins with Mia saying "Dont do it you little brat! Dont skip it DONT SKIP IT DONT SKIP IT ! NO NO NO NO" with no warning is one of the ads that plays throughout Youtube on random videos.

The comments of the TV Spot are people talking about how they almost had a heart attack watching some random video and then having that commercial pop up.

People are writing complaints to Customer Service through Google Product Forums.

Here's some quotes:

Quote:
I also agree. I wrote an email to customer support saying that it is inappropriate to show to any audience other than those watching the 18+ videos where you have to verify your age. Even then (I am 22), a warning would be nice. Scared me half to death. And I do have a heart condition! I already have an unnaturally fast heartbeat (Tachycardia) and have frequent palpitations so being startled and having my heart race and skip beats is extremely uncomfortable. I encourage you to write to customer support as well. This does not go along with their PG-13 image as I'm sure that ad was rated "R" like the movie is. I used sup...@google.com (I got that email address off a forum.) I am also writing to ser...@google.com. If anybody knows that these email addresses are no good or have a better one to use to actually get through to someone, please let me know!

me too! glad others felt that way, someone pointed out flagging...i hadn't known that was possible. I was babysitting and showing the kids a video when this came on they were screaming for me to get it off so i had to close the computer down it ... they are still traumatized. I had to write youtube about it.. it shook me up pretty bad. So no more youtube till they remove it can't risk scaring the crap out of kids. I do realize that youtube is PG13, they were supervised, it was disturbing to me as well.

Quote:
I agree. The ad must come down. It scared the crappy out of me. I was trying to watch a peaceful music video when all of a sudden a creepy face pops out telling me not to skip the ad. This is unexceptable. The image was reply disturbing and it can be a real danger to someone who has a heart condition.

Quote:
So I went to watch a lolz cat video and this popped up as the mandatory commercial at the beginning.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak9nzwj2_RY

Im not visiting youtube until this get taken down. that is really scary and startling and it doesn't belong on a lolz cat page.

Quote:
just tried to watch a video on a playlist of mine and an Evil Dead ad with a very, very scary, creepy looking dead girl with an evil voice kept saying "You brat. Don't skip it. Don't skip it. Don't skip it." It was the most disturbing thing I had seen in a long time and scared the crap out of me because I wasn't expecting it! I had to put my hand over the image on my computer screen because it was THAT disturbing to me.
Is there a way to skip certain types of ads automatically or not even see them at all?? I would LOVE to be able to do this. I would GLADLY watch ANY other ad but those creepy Evil Dead ads. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BTW, can someone please tell me how I can COMPLAIN to Youtube about this stupid ad! I want them to know I HATE it.

:funny:

It is amusing, but I am not surprised. Not everyone is a horror fan. I can understand, say, a 13-year-old being upset when she selects a sneezing-panda video and is greeted by a decomposing demon girl shouting at her.

This.

Aside from the "Don't Skip It" part, I don't see much that isn't par for the course in horror advertising. Or maybe it's just that having seen the box cutter scene from the red band trailer makes everything else in the ad campaign look tame by comparison.

Yes, but only because the spelling is shameful.

They make me want to cry like a little baby. Because they're terrifying.
