It's better than The Notebook, damnit!

Whoa, whoa, woah! Hold it right there cowboys. Garden State is pretty darn romantic, but The Notebook makes the jump to hyperomantispace - - it's the romance movie's romance movie (at least this decade)...

:disgust:

Natalie Portman >> Rachel McAdams

Ryan Gosling > Zach Braff

Natalie Portmans awesome-ness is too much for Notebook to handle.

I was about to bash you.. but then I'm like, wait, its to hard, they're both so good..
..then I remembered McAdams is Canadian soooo, your wrong.

You're an insane person if you think McAdams is even CLOSE to being as great as Portman.

Not saying that Portman isn't great (how could anyone after seeing Léon?!?), but that McAdams is equally as great (wait'll December when The Time Traveler's Wife blows the doors off the BO!).

However, the key difference I'm talking about in this thread is that Garden State was a fine example of young romance - - but that's the easiest kind, when you're still head over heels. The Notebook looks at love in the long haul - - romance over the course of a whole lifetime. That's a rare and precious goal that most of us can only aspire to...

(And remember - - look back at my review - - I'm just another big soft-hearted fanboy of Garden State too, ya know...)

You definitely should, even if romance typically isn't your thing. It's a classic (and a good date movie if you're ever stumped )

I actually agree with you this assessment, but I like Garden State more simply because it touches on more ideas than just romance. It speaks to me in different ways. I really need to see Notebook again though. After seeing it in theaters I don't think I have had the chance to get another viewing.

9 years later and this is honestly in my top five films of all time. Just a brilliant piece of work.

I can't believe it is 9 years old. :P I so vividly remember sneaking into it after A Cinderella Story. ;)

I took Moviegeek to see this. Our Dad was not happy.

It remains my second favorite film of all time.

This was alright. Braff can definitely write and direct. The screenplay is solid and it has its quirks. Very well-written. But he should not have played the lead. He just doesn't have the range. Portman is terrific, though. B
